The launch switches are special because they are a dying breed of easily hackable switch devices (new models like patched, Mariko, Switch Lite, and OLED require modchips). You can hack it by using an "rcm jig" (a piece of copper wire in a joycon rail slider) which will exploit the nvidia tegra recovery mode (rcm) particular to these old models and allow full access to the internals of the device by pushing a payload file. This will allow you to install custom firmware and use homebrew software as well as play pirated games.

Technically you can use a paperclip to enter recovery mode but we are no longer cavemen and rcm jigs are readily available for the price of a McChicken on Amazon and Ebay.
This seems like a great trade in deal but I think I'll be keeping my V1 unpatched Switch. It's starting to become rare. 🧐
Special but there's like 6 million of them. You might get another $100 if you're lucky.

Not true.

"Patched" just means the ipatches they apply at the factory which cannot be applied afterwards, so if it's "unpatched" it's hackable forever regardless of what firmware it's on, see https://arstechnica.com/gaming/20...-hackable/

I don't understand the people trading in v1's. Once modified, it can play almost all of the older systems and will forever be able to play any present and future games released for the switch free of payment. The GTA trilogy set is being released for this system. Once modified the switch is basically an all in one game console.
Certain pre released games bricked consoles, at times sketchy download sites, and even banned from online consoles. It may be worth it to some to avoid all that, get a better display and battery life, and never have to worry about bricking a console.

Traded in my V2 Switch for $260 yesterday. Also traded in an old Xbone controller for $40 and picked up a new Series X controller for $50, so just paid the $10 difference.

Really good deal if you want to upgrade your controllers.

I'd totally do this. These deals are why I keep my powerup rewards membership.

Sadly (all) of my Switches are Limited Editions.

•Animal Crossing Console
•Monster Hunter Console
•Diablo Edition Console
I want that Diablo edition man, those are sweet

What all is needed for the trade in? Is it the console, dock, joycon, ac adapter? Do I need anything else like the grip thing?

I had a modded v1, tbh I mostly play Indy games and I refuse to download "backups" of Indy titles as it feels super scummy to me, so I sold mine and bought an unmodded switch for that no worry online play etc, already ordered an oled but might go trade mine in for $260 towards accessories and games I guess, I was gonna just sell it again but this seems like it would be a better deal to me

I just remember my wife's Switch is indeed a classic Original OG switch. So I'll take that one in and grab an Oled for her.

It was answered. Almost nothing is special about it if you've been keeping your system up to date, which most people have.
Not true! If it's an OG v1 switch it is special regardless of firmware. But I'd you are intent on trading it in and it is in good condition let me know as I'll buy it for 260 gamestop credit Wink I'll then jailbreak/hack it and sell it for 400.

You're talking about just the plain old Xbox One X/S model controllers? The current promo gets you $40 for them? Maybe a stupid question but does the new Series X controller work on the older Xbox One systems, because that's what I'm reading when you say you're upgrading them. If so I did not know that and it sounds like a great deal to upgrade.

I wouldn't say disgusting... I'd say re-releasing 3 20+ year old games with no updates or remade assets and charging $59 was disgusting. But to each their own.
