Why do so many FP deals have less than 20 TU?

A lot of them have less than 10 TU.

Used to be 40-50 minimum... now like 5-10.

Is appearing on FP not community driven anymore?

fp is absolutely still community driven. have you personalized your frontpage by chance (set any of the categories/merchants to "like")? if so then you are seeing deals that are popular/trending but not yet front page mixed in. you can distinguish them by the orange tag (classic) / "personalized" tag (redesign). pictures attached.

You might also be seeing deals with lower net-upvote counts due to a new personalization feature. If you see a bar below the "Featured Deals" that reads "For You | Frontpage | Popular" then you might be seeing a new browsing experience that Slickdeals is testing. On the "For You" tab you are seeing deals that are rising stars that align with categories that you shop more often. This gives you access to deals on the path to becoming "Frontpage" deals more quickly and gives you an opportunity to up or down vote those deals - given your category expertise - to inform the deal's path up or down.

Right, it functions smiilarly to google or facebook ad ratings but it appears to be based on the activity on the site instead of mined and traded all over the Internet.

I know it's early, but I've gotten a couple of pretty good predictions.

IIRC, some of the ads are still driven by google search - they'll pull up something I looked at on some retailer that is rarely or never on a deal in here.

Because anything that they earn affiliate money gets FPed basically immediately now even if the deal sucks.

I go straight to hot deals, where new deals or those getting attention get bumped to the top of page 1. I search for specific things once in a while, but mostly I just browse HD while on the computer so as to catch good stuff. I honestly haven't had very good luck with FP for the past several years with a few exceptions, but the great FP deals again generate comments and TUs in HD.

Sure, they look good so far. I'll try to remember to make a thread if I get a lot of odd recommendations but so far, pretty good!
