Um.. that was not their point. In fact, quite the opposite.

USB 3.1 Gen 2 has a max speed of 10Gbps (gigabits). That equals a theoretical max of 1.25GB/s (gigabytes) or 1250MB/s. Factor in 10-15% overhead for USB, which means that 1050/1000 MB/s is nearing the practical limit of the interface.

The drive inside is likely capable of higher speeds, but the USB interface is holding it back.
I'll save you a click. There's a current $30 off promo for 1TB and 2TB: $109.99 and $219.99. Pretty good if you don't want to wait another month to buy.
Very useful for photographers and videographers, as well as anyone who backs up files on location and/or edits on location.

Example: I'm a photographer who travels sometimes hundreds or thousands of miles away to shoot weddings, so I back up the cards via laptop to these SSDs the same night at the hotel.

Sometimes when I'm on vacation and it's a rainy day, I might stay in to cull weddings that may be as large as 300-400GB each. Hence, why I have multiple 2TB externals (some are SanDisk, some are NVMes slotted into a USB-C adapter).

Do you know if Costco price matches itself. I bought the same from them 10 days back at a higher price.
Yes they will.

I am impressed by the size of this thing. Didn't realize it until I opened it. So small

Well I mean NVME is the size of a stick of ram so not surprising at all unless you never remotely mess with a computer before.

Nice deal. Have been waiting for a small portable and rugged SSD to serve as my offline backup. Got two of these. One will be my Disaster backup to replicate everything I have on OneDrive and stored in a location away from me. The other will be a backup of OneDrive that stays right with me for traditional offline backup purposes.

If only OneDrive develops the smarts to create and maintain the backups on these external drives, I would keep my backup drive up to date frequently.

Since I use OneDrive with the offline files feature, it's not so easy to keep backups on an external drive up to date.

Buyer Beware: this is the Extreme, not the Extreme Pro, so it is not NVME. Costco's website is incorrect. See https://www.westerndigital.com/pr...1-4T00-G25

For external drives it is barely worth to get NVME inside, because as others mentioned here the USB bus, even 3.2 Gen 2, would be a bottle neck to full NVME speeds.

Costco is selling the Extreme V2 which is NVME.

This drive is rated to 1050MBps which is well under the the USB 3.2 Gen 2 10Gbps spec.

This is still a great deal and it's still on-going thru 11/29, but it was originally posted so long ago it no longer appears on the SSD pages, which isn't uniquely helpful to those looking for deals thru Cyber Monday...

[If there's Slickdeals functionality that allows someone to "refresh" such a page, let me know.]

Free shipping, you must be a Costco member to score these prices, though if you're not a member you may be able to buy them with a surcharge.

My local store was same same price as online. You can call your store to check the price.
