I recommend looking into an M1 Macbook Air. Longer battery life and more affordable, especially if you are not doing any CPU or graphically intensive tasks like video editing, CAD rendering, etc. Only thing is that this one has an HDMI port (+ SD card reader & MagSafe) and the older M1 Macbook Air only has USB C ports, so you'll need dongles if you need to plug in external displays.

I agree with Peter. The MacBook Pro would be overkill for what you’re describing. The Air still has an extremely fast processor and is much cheaper.

Haha, well technically yes... A MacBook Air would be more than adequate and would likely serve you well for many years. That would be the logical choice. It's like buying a Corolla vs. buying a Lamborghini... The Corolla will get you where you wanna go safely and comfortably... But the Lambo is way more fun to drive haha. If your budget allows, and you are comfortable with the *gulp $2k price tag, the 14" is also a FANTASTIC piece of Apple engineering. I sure have been enjoying mine the past two days! (It's ok I can afford it, I don't have a sports car lol). Any Apple notebook will be lightyears ahead of a ChromeBook in terms of performance and user experience! Note: You can buy a refurbished (new charger, new battery, 100% tested working w/ 1 year warranty) M1 MBA direct from Apple's website for $849 right now too. I've done this many times for myself and family without any issues. In fact, considering doing just that for my sister who is looking to upgrade.

It depends on how frequently you change laptops. If you want to keep this for 6-7 years and can afford the 2K, get this.
My last Mac was from 2012 (ssd upgraded). Still beats an i5 lenovo from 2018.
I plan to get this now and hopefully not change for 10 years.

Applications (incl. Chrome) adapt to these new cpu speeds faster than people change laptops. Better get this if you can afford.

Costco uses a 3rd party company for their concierge service. I’ve never had an issue with them in all my years. They are held to the same standard as direct Costco employees. Costco also gives you a 2 year warranty from day one on defects.

Not happening. You might get attractive prices on 13" MCP from 2020 but for 1499 you're extremely ambitious. 1799 would be best bet and some card discount(s) might smoothen a bit more, but does the ordinary users need it ? Not at all ! MacBook Air is the best for it.

Some of the new Macbook models have expected ship dates even beyond BF 2021. So yeah BF 2022 makes sense.

Very tempting... but I have the m1 macbook air and it is actually a beast for everything I do. So, I think the v2 macbook air m2 is in my sights. For anyone else who hasn't tried an m1 mac, its so much better than the Intel versions. Quiet, cool, fast.
