The security measure they have in place make it impossible to actually play the game. They seem so over zealous to protect security that they alienate anyone who might actually play the game. I actually played at launch and now when I login it says I have to contact support to unlock my account. I was going to collect the other goodies and maybe give the game a try, but now I probably won't bother.

I played part 1 when it came out for quite a bit. It was the perfect alternative to World of Warcraft because i only wanted to play pvp without grinding for items. I felt GW was a better game because it was based on team strat, rather than on items.

I spent 5 years on Diablo II, with the last 3 of those 5 years strictly playing PVP. It was such a grind to build a character, lvl it up, then hope you have good items for it. GW was refreshing at the time because it wasn't like that, for the most part.

I have nearly 11,000 hours played over the past 9 years. Some advice..

The free account gives you access to a lot of content but some of the story and locations will be inaccessible. I don't think mounts will be available unless you get one of the expansions. The wiki is extremely helpful. You can type /wiki then shift-click any item to take you direct to page explaining that item. There is a Halloween event going on until November 9th. Plenty to do in it. Make sure you set your mastery in your hero panel to Central Tyria, Pact Commander. Once you max that out you will have auto-loot capability across your entire account, which is extremely helpful not having to click-pickup loot, especially during the Halloween event.

Played GW1 since launch day so naturally I did the same with GW2. But I lost interest in gaming overall a couple years later so I took a 5 year hiatus from GW2 around 2015. Just started getting into it again earlier this year and there's so much stuff I've missed out on, lol, but the good thing is it's easy to pick up again like riding a bicycle. I prefer not to join a guild though because then I'd feel obligated to play more when I just need 1-2 hours every now and then and I'm out.

Edit:
I got the Path of Fire expansion back when it was part of a B1G1 free promo and having a mount really makes a difference.
