It's Sony's recommendation, but not a requirement, only requirement is that the drive is gen 4
More than slightly longer load times, but impact to in-game performance as well. The reason they say it has to hit a specific speed is that they will use the speed to load assets and textures during gameplay. Sony isn't saying it needs to be a specific speed for just loading the game, that would be silly.

Yes, but they should be enough for a PS5 and definitely an upgrade if you're coming from and old SATA SSD

edit: this drive doesn't come with a heatsink which is required for PS5

It's all relative. Gen 3 capped out around 3500 MBps, so this being 40% faster is nice, plus it means it is actually using the higher capacity of Gen 4.

I thought PS5 "required" a minimum sequential read speed of 5500MB/s to match the speed of the stock drive? In which case, this one is about 10% too slow.

That's fair. But as more next gen games are developed i would expect them to optimize for at least the 5500 speeds

What could happen with a slightly slower drive though? Just slightly longer loads?

MSRP is $179, not $199. I'm on PC, so I'm going to wait for games to add Direct storage capabilities before I upgrade from my Gen 3 drives. Seems like a good cheap drive if you're looking to add to PS5, though. It also has a pretty high TBW of 1600.

You don't want to get below the recommended speeds...why make your PS5 obsolete that much quicker? Future proof it

This will still work in pcie gen 3 laptop right? Or not recommended ( i know it wont maximize the capability, but how will it perform on pcie gen 3 only ) ? thanks

How is the heat of this without heatsink?
