Just a heads up, these are likely cheap because these months are during the major rain season in Kauai.
Just FYI - Rental cars are still hard to find or cost arm and a leg… pay $200 for flight and $200 per day for rental… not cool
I live here in oahu. They don't arrest you. That's crazy

They are actually charging really low rates currently. Didn't you know....travel is down?

My wife and I just got back from Hawaii, 10 nights, 3 islands, 3 hotels, round trip from RDU to Hawaii, eating out 3 times per day...spent $5300 TOTAL (TOTAL) and that includes multiple tours, souvenirs, a couple of shirts my wife made me buy, and all the adult beverages I would have drank at home. Anything we swiped a card for the moment we left home to the moment we got back to RDU.

"$2,000/night for lodging" LOL...please. More like $265/night per person (flight included) and that was NOT an all inclusive trip but that total is all inclusive of what we spent Wink
I guess if you go off-season then yes, but I checked the holiday times because that's when the kids have their school break and all those times upto spring break are very high priced rental cars

I thought that was the point of SlickDeals, saving money. I'd imagine rental cars costs much more during spring break regardless of the location. Not sure why we should be blaming Hawaii for that fact of life

Also, none of these flights line up with spring break so seems odd comparing rental car rates that do not match with the timeline of the available flights (at the deal price, that is).

Wow for once one of these flight deals that only works on specific dates actually lines up with my travel dates.

Eh the prices have definitely come down. I rented a standard SUV through Costco on the big island just last week for 8 days at $387 total. I booked it about 1.5 months ahead.

We were thinking about scheduling a trip to Hawaii and kauai is on my top list of islands to go to but now everyone has me second guessing if it's something that's even doable with my group (we want to do two islands 5 days each). We weren't looking to go until May though. Would be 6 of us. Two seniors (my parents celebrating 50 years) and my husband and I (celebrating 20 years), our two children ages 9 and 14. Looking at 10 days with an overall budget for everyone around $8000 not including flights. Is that even feasible or am I dreaming? I was thinking probably $3-4K for lodging, $1K for rental car, $1K food, 2K for the rest (surf lesson, rental for snorkeling gear, etc). For food we weren't planning on going out too often three individuals have strict dietary restrictions so we were planning on doing a lot of cooking from Airbnb/vrbo. Probably only going out for dinners but we also don't drink. We were hoping to do a helicopter tour but that's being paid for by my sister for all of our anniversaries.

Just got back from Kauai 2 weeks ago. Best trip ever.

This is what we did there...

Queens Bath hike - short, a little tricky but beautiful
Kalau Trail to hidden beach - about 4-5 miles round trip, good for experienced hikers, must book ahead and bring shoes with good grip, amazing sights.
Halalei beach - best beach out of the three we visited but not much parking. Good snorkeling
Helicopter flight around the island - one of the highlights of the trip. Expensive
Luau - not my cup of tea but girlfriend loved it and food was good

We also did surfing on Honolulu but I wish we did it in kauai instead. There's not many restaurants where we stayed (Princeville) but Happy Talk Grille was the best hands down. Grocery store prices are not that bad. Most items are about the same price as the mainland but some items are very expensive. ($16 for a bag of grapes)

Kauai definitely hates tourists. Better off visiting a friendly island like Oahu or the Big Island.
Thats the dumbest thing I've ever heard on here, that is until your rebutle that will probably be dumber and less informed. And the article that you will attempt to use to make your point will be short sighted and not take into the fact that these are generally places that rely on tourism but so have tight nit families that cram a lot of family members into one dwelling and if one of the family got covid it could wreck families easily. But merica and freedom and blah blah blah.
