NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • This instant classic explores how we can change our lives by changing our habits.

NAMED ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR BY The Wall Street Journal • Financial Times

In The Power of Habit, award-winning business reporterCharles Duhigg takes us to the thrilling edge of scientific discoveries that explain why habits exist and how they can be changed. Distilling vast amounts of information into engrossing narratives that take us from the boardrooms of Procter & Gamble to the sidelines of the NFL to the front lines of the civil rights movement, Duhigg presents a whole new understanding of human nature and its potential. At its core, The Power of Habit contains an exhilarating argument: The key to exercising regularly, losing weight, being more productive, and achieving success is understanding how habits work. As Duhigg shows, by harnessing this new science, we can transform our businesses, our communities, and our lives.

With a new Afterword by the author

"Sharp, provocative, and useful."—Jim Collins

"Few [books] become essential manuals for business and living. The Power of Habit is an exception. Charles Duhigg not only explains how habits are formed but how to kick bad ones and hang on to the good."Financial Times

"A flat-out great read."—David Allen, bestselling author of Getting Things Done: The Art of Stress-Free Productivity

"You'll never look at yourself, your organization, or your world quite the same way."—Daniel H. Pink, bestselling author of Drive and A Whole New Mind

"Entertaining . . . enjoyable . . . fascinating . . . a serious look at the science of habit formation and change."The New York Times Book Review

One of the those "team building" books I read for work. Ironically, it opened my eyes to how dysfunctional our organization is.

This book sounded so good that I was going to buy it so I could add to my list of reading intentions (one day ...). I see I got it for free back in March 2019.

Great book. It was an eye opener for me back when I read it. Few other books have derived concepts from it since then. Atomic habits by James clear is great as well. Both are available at your local library for free.

Do slickdealers really need to be reminded of the power of habit?

Could only get one fourth way through, got way too repetitious and boring! The most helpful review gets it right

I was looking for something more substantial, but this very much a run of the mill, formulaic pop-psychology book. Buying it is not necessary. Essentially the book says "when you are triggered to do a bad habit, recognize that trigger and do a good habit in its place." There; you just read the book.

You're right about the core message of the book. My problem is that if one had the self control and self awareness of identifying the bad habit and swapping it with a good one, why would the trigger take the person towards the bad habit in the first place! Maybe I'm hopeless but I don't get any of the self help books, including diet ones. If someone has the will power and self control, they wouldn't be in the problematic situation in the first place or they wouldn't need a book to fix their situation. And if someone doesn't have that will power and self control, no book is going to help them.

You're right for most of this entire self help industry!
