World War Z Aftermath stuttering only when firing weapon

10,452 5,296 November 14, 2021 at 06:27 AM
Trying to play this game on my PC, local only, and every time I fire a weapon, the game almost freezes, major stuttering. It's really bizarre. When just moving around, it's smooth.
Thought maybe someone would have a quick fix because googling about it isn't bringing up much.

Confused

Have you tried changing from Vulkan to DX11 or vice versa? Might fix some issues. Apparently, there can be an issue with borderless, so if you are using borderless try fullscreen instead.

I did try to switch between Vulkan and DX11 - no help.

I think I'm in fullscreen mode, but it's being launched from PlayNite (fullscreen), not directly from Epic launcher. I can try Epic direct launch to see if that helps.

So weird it only happens when firing weapons.

Stupid question, but is your monitor plugged into the GPU? You would be surprised at how often this happens.

Have you tried reducing the resolution and detail levels?

Updated the GPU Drivers recently?

Yep, definitely plugged directly from the GPU to monitor (not from the motherboard's hdmi port - which I think is blocked anyway since it's all OEM).

NVidia GPU Drivers are totally up-to-date.

I haven't had time to play around with it. Been busy this week. But first try will be direct launch from Epic. I'm using my 4K 65" TV right now for gaming, so I'm also going to go back to my AOC 1440 32" monitor to see if it's any better. I doubt it's the TV that's the problem based on the way it's behaving.

And, I will try as you suggest and lower resolution and details. In theory, it should work as-is, but will go back to "scratch" and see if I can get any improvements.
