These are USED. Probably should have specified that in the title or post.

Seems pretty decent to me. For comparison, the closest thing I see listed as used on eBay that includes the remote is a 1st gen for $18.29.

I think the point is the newer version goes on sale new regularly for $20 and even sometimes $15.

How can they sell them for $12 each, after having to receive, check them, repackage and than restock. They can't be making anything off of them.

I doubt they're checking anything. If you read the reviews, it seems Amazon released an update recently which screwed these up. These are probably those trade-ins. Why else would Amazon have some many 3 to 5 year old Fire Sticks?

I imagine that Amazon make very little money from the firesticks themselves. It's probably not a coincidence that Nvidia (and Apple to a lesser extent) sell their devices for a lot more money because they don't make money from ads/services like Google, Amazon and Roku do.

There's a good chance someone who buys a $12 firestick will buy or keep a $119/yr prime subscription and maybe buy a few movies + they have to scroll through all of the ads on the home screen. Then they'll get hooked on 2 day shipping and give Bezos even more money.

Amazon makes money from their fireOS. Featured content, data sharing, etc.
