Btw, I saw 4TB ones for 68.99 in B&H and thought maybe I over paid for these in Newegg. I compared the two and turns out model are different. B&H one is WD40EFRX with 64MB Cache and Newegg one is WD40EFZX with 128MB Cache. I paid $76.99 with $8 coupon. Don't know about you, but $8 more for 64MB more cache sounds not so bad at all.

Yes. It's the SMR drives you want to avoid.
Yup........

This is bad. I hope they are doing something with your feedback.

Mine is still in the processing stage. I don't like their lack of communication, especially since items were in stock when the order was placed.
The tech from India's response was "shipping was probably overwhelmed because of the amount of orders they received on BF." It's been days since the ticket was created and nothing has happened. I'm telling you it's going to take me a month to get my drives. On top of that I wanted to verify that I was going to get new drives and not refurbished drives. No response on that. They did offer I 20% coupon for my troubles. I just want my drives at this point. I really wish I could have cancelled the order and just went to the local Best Buy to get them but oh well.

I ordered a 4TB on Nov 28 when it was in stock, it went OOS shortly after, but back in stock again since yesterday (Dec 3). Just like you, mine is still in the processing stage even they are in stock now. As soon as it was back in stock WD made another authorization to PayPal, so now I have 2 authorizations for the same order number. Not sure what's going on, I'll stay away from WD in the future.

I imagine it was a fluke thing, but a really bad fluke thing. I wouldn't be too down on the product as much as the company. I'll just never purchase from WD directly again. Never had a problem buying drives from Best Buy or even Amazon so I'll stick with those sellers in the future.

Wow the 8TB's were $155 on BF. Then after the sale was over they went to $209. I just went up to see if they were in stock and now they are $239.

I canceled my order today after finding out it was still in the processing stage despite in stock since last Fri Dec 3 (but OOS today). What finally convinced me to cancel it is another complaint of poor packaging,

Just like the case of WiseLlama2461, the packing was totally un-acceptable. I'm not going to save a few $ and go through the hassle of return/exchange. Amazon currently has the Red plus 4TB for $75 but delivery date is in Jan.
I'm done with WD direct, no more future purchase. Wonder how Amazon and Newegg pack the hard drives these days ?

I called WD support earlier this week and they told me that the 4TB WD Red Plus that I ordered on 26 Nov was actually back ordered (even though it was in stock before, during and immediately after my order.

Support also mentioned that they will likely ship in 2 - 3 weeks. All this is happening and I have not received any communication whatsoever besides the initial order confirmation.

I ended up ordering from Newegg early last week for $75 and it arrived earlier today. As soon as I powered it up, it made a huge spinning noise, so it must be defective. The packaging was OK but could have been better - it was placed in a thick bubble pocket inside a small box that just fits a 3.5" drive. Already requested for refund, Newegg provided a free return label and no restocking fee. Just need to pack it up and make a trip to UPS store Mad

Oh bummer. I see that Amazon has a new deal, which would arrive early January.

3 Weeks have passed since my order from WD and it's still in the processing stage with no communication whatsoever. I will probably cancel it and get some from Amazon.

I ordered from Amazon yesterday after a trip to UPS store to return the defected drive to Newegg. Not too sure about the packaging (or lack of), but being throwing around by UPS/USPS for 9 days didn't help. The drive from Newegg was manufactured in July 2021, I expect Amazon to ship a newer drive.
Looks WD has problems in managing their inventory, their website shows the 4TB Red Plus in stock for a few times since BF, but your order still hasn't been shipped. I'll make sure I'll stay away from WD direct.

My two 8TB drives showed up end of last week. The manufacture data on the drives was 11/25 in Thailand so that's why it took so long to get here.

I was also worried about the shipping condition from a few posts on here and on the WD forums but they arrived safely, if overly protected. The two drives were in a styrofoam case meant to hold 24 drives. I was hoping for more than two but it was just the ones I ordered.

I was just pointing out that they were basically manufactured in Thailand on the day I ordered when they seemed to be in stock. Then had to make it from there to the WD warehouse and then get sent out to me.
