I was eyeballing this a week ago at $499, now $100 cheaper. These appear to be a lower end brand, but I'm no professional. A friend has a Pit Boss and has no complaints.

If this has a PID controller, it's a fantastic deal. I have a pit boss pro from Lowe's and it's been nothing short of amazing. Truly a set and forget system.

Pellets definitely don't offer near as much smoke flavor as a true stick burner, but they're fantastic nonetheless.

What's the PID controller do for you?

You can Google more info but the gist is they maintain a consistent temperature. The earlier pit bosses and other brands without a PID controller, tend to fluctuate temps all over the place.

There can be controller issues can happen with even the new controllers. Pit boss will send you a new controller if you're having issues.

Regardless of new vs old, there is a known air gap issue in most of the horizontal smokers. There is a gap near the temperature probe that causes hot air to blow on the temp probe, causing odd heat fluctuations. There is a mod (I've installed it on my Austin XL) that fixes this issue.

I've got the smaller Pit Boss Lexington 540, so far the quality is fantastic and honestly if I knew about this deal before I got mine the other week I would buy it immediately especially after using one. Haven't used any of the other brands so far but the Pit Boss brand certainly does a good job at least in my limited experience.

The pid controller more tightly regulates temperature with tighter pellet feed and fan control. Non pids fluctuate temps more but gets you more smoke. I don't know why people get so upset when temps fluctuate 20 degrees on non pids.

Thanks for this. I went to your website and watched the video & it looks like a good solution. Are you offering any "Black Friday" deals for this?

That's not my product. Im a member of the face book group "Pit Boss Pellet Grill / Pellet Smoker Owners". I believe one of the creators of the group developed that product after discovering the issue / solution to the problem. Other owners have solved the issue with aluminum foil.

Highly recommend joining that group for tips, tricks, recipes
