Copy-Pasted from the internet, so I'm not vouching for its perfect accuracy, but here it is:

So, based on the above, 23% seems like way too much for what I would need it for, at least.
Heads up, THD rated at ≤23% - this is more of a worksite generator
Very good idea to buy this for us Texans.

In Feb 2021, we were the most popular house on the block thanks to our generator. We were providing internet to anyone who wanted to walk past, a warm garage with hot chocolate, board games, Nintendo switch, and a TV.

This puts out some dirty power. I personally wouldn't run valuable electronics off it.
That also includes modern day furnaces, fridges, and microwaves which use microchips that are sensitive to power ripples.

I actually don't know many household electronics that are not sensitive these days. Power tools from the garage maybe, but others, you are risking of ruining your devices by feeding them the power from the non inverter generators.

The ups backups generally don't clean up the power so you are taking a risk with your electro. You'd need one that claims to put out a pure sine wave
I get that.. but I've had 2 home PCs, work laptop, and entertainment center running from the Costco tri fuel generator and haven't had any issues..
Perhaps you are right that it can harm electronics, but I think the risk is very much lower than most seem to believe it is..
I agree the best thing is to get an inverter generator.. but for me, I couldn't find one that met all these requirements and was under 1,200:
1- 240v output
2- ability to run on natural gas
3- at least 6k running watts

I am going to run Refrigerator, furnace(oil burner) and electric range. Will THD be critical thing for me? Thank you!
I've run a modern refrigerator for days on "dirty" power with no issue fwiw. I would be a bit wary of the furnace

At this price you have $ left over to buy a battery and an inverter or a small inverter-generator to operate sensitive electronic loads. This generator can recharge portable battery power stations and conventional marine deep cycle batteries with separate inverter as clean power sources. This generator safely supports most cooking lighting water heating and pumping, space heating. It can support forced air furnaces. Compressors run hotter but usually survive. Circuit boards in appliances may eventually fail with enough generator use but they are faily robust these days. Amana defrost boards only cost me $30 are easy to swap out and only required replacement after after surviving scores of hours over multiple extended power outages. The wgen5300dfv is far more likely to burn up appliance boards and electronics.

I can't say anything about this particular model, I have a wgen12000df, but I will vouch for Westinghouse as a company from my personal experience.

Due to me doing something really stupid, I basically destroyed my generator. I was ready to eat the $2500 mistake, but decided to contact Westinghouse to see if there was anything I could do.

They took my old generator and sent me a refurbished unit. It took almost 2 months from start to finish, but I was happy.

Great deal if I wasn't looking exclusively for dual fuel and preferably 50amp. Thumbs up though for the find!
What is the second fuel? And what's top of your list? I'm in New Orleans so we are trying to figure out what we can get on our budget (not a generac)

When a hurricane has come through, the whole neighborhood sounds like this. Not a big deal honestly.
I agree. In 2007 our area was hit with a massive ice storm which knocked out power to our neighborhood for 6 days. We ran our refrigerator, lights, and furnace on a cheap craftsman generator with no issues. I'm not saying people should run their high end computers on something like this but I really feel like the THD is overstated in getting people to buy inverters for backup generators.

no. this is exactly the sweet spot for these. I do the same in mine. Even TV works fine. Most modern electronics have a decent power supply unit. Perhaps don't don't your 4000 dollar gaming rig but most everything else is fine, including modems, routers etc.

It's the opposite. The motor is more sensitive to a dirty sine wave or square wave. The DC electronics generally would not be effected because of their use of switching power supplies. RF stages maybe, depending on whether their power supply provides enough isolation to avoid introducing interference.

I have to say I heard several examples of the control boards from the furnaces and fridges got burnt out but never electric drills and angle grinders got destroyed from generators.
