That first review seems to be written by an electrical engineer or someone with similar experience. Not a bad thing per se but probably written from an overly technical (and critical) perspective where things are never quite good enough. We can all get like that sometimes with stuff we are (or think we are) particularly knowledgeable about or experienced with (e.g. see threads on SD about knives and coffee).
Again, not to discount this sort of perspective but something to be considered. I also see 3k+ reviews and a brand I've had good first-hand experience with so I'm in for one. Thanks OP!
It's literally stock photos of random circuit boards, followed by a list of claims with no context or evidence, and random EE jargon.
The boards (and they're not even the same boards across photos) are not even close to the same dimensions as the actual product, and not one of the photos shows anything actually related to any Anker product. No Anker branded charger photos, no Anker packaging, no Anker manuals or warranty cards.
It's totally fabricated.
I don't own one of these, but if you're that scared of it, I'll gladly take it off your hands.
Can anyone show proof that the top review is true and accurate? I see the pictures, but they're unlabeled and point out the issues mentioned in the review itself.

This is an amazing charger. I have had it since launch (maybe ~ 2 years) and it's my go to. Easy to take with me to work. I love how the prongs fold in. Fits in my jacket pocket. Fast charging. Perfect for my iPhone. No issues
It is a very compact and attractive charger. I bought one. But the top review on Amazon harshly criticized the safety and quality of the electronics, and I don't use it anymore.

I dunno, the photos from the review seem plausibly the product with external case removed. The thickness at 13mm internal/.62" on the product page, then inferring the width and height visually it seems fine.
But account posting that only has 1 review so, while I think there is a good chance this person's opinion is informed (could also be, an attack from another amazon seller though, who knows) it's also impossible to say how it compares against other products so it's kind of irrelevant.
Anker is probably slightly overrated on slickdeals, it's just another chinese electronics company that 'made it' on amazon somehow, but probably all coming from more or less the same factories in china. They certainly haven't jumped to replace my failed USB cables when I've asked so, I often just go for the cheaper no-names e.g. "EUFYDAN" or whatever
I have this and would get many more. It charges my devices well without getting hot. I love that it folds up slim. The only charger that fits into my laptop wallet pockets.

There are websites that open up and inspect GaN chargers. I'm not an EE but the pictures in the review do not look at all like a charger circuit board: https://www.chargerlab.com/urlhas...wn-review/

Do I need above average charging cables to take advantage of this? Using some from China that have 3 charge options on them (Micro-USB/Lightning/USB-C)...

Funny you said that. I got this thing a year ago. It is very small and attractive. For some reason I did not trust it at all. I rarely used it at first, and haven't since. I think I don't trust it because it's very small and I've never seen a 30W charger of a similar size. There are cheap 18watt chargers that are small and I don't trust at all, and those are bigger than this 30w one.
I don't know what to think. Now that I'm reminded of it I want to use it and now more doubt is shed on it. I have a thin electrojet battery pack that charges fast at 30W it's a perfect fast charging/small combo of charger and battery pack.
I might just start using it again, so confused. This is mostly a useless comment I guess.
