This is a good price but unfortunately it's not a good product. The spool constantly grabs and won't dispense more than a foot without you having to put a good amount of muscle into it.
I have this one, highly recommend it: https://smile.amazon.com/Klein-To...06&sr=8-16

Updated model is cheaper but haven't used it personally https://smile.amazon.com/Klein-To...066&sr=8-2

For my uses 1/4" was better since I can run thicker cables like romex if I need to. I just finished wiring my living room for surround sound and it was a lifesaver. The plastic tip is pretty useless but it works even better without it, IMO.

It looks just like the Klein but you really have to muscle the cable out. I tried one and didn't like it.

This is a good price for what you get. I used it once to get HDMI cables through the conduit to the place where the TV is hung. If you are using this for more heavy duty purposes, then get a better one or a fiberglass rod. But for most DIY home use this will be fine at shorter distances. Wouldn't want to use this quality for 125' of fishing though...

Thats disappointing to hear but not a suprise at this price. Ive had the same experiences with klein fish tapes from home depot. Really jus want a nice solid fish tape that works like its suppose too even if its more money. Any recommendations?

I used this a couple times and absolutely hate it. I recommend ordering a different one.

I would go with a fiberglass tape like this one.

Klein Tools Glow Fish Tape, 20-Foot
https://www.homedepot.com/p/Klein.../314609744

All metal fish tapes eventually rust and become very difficult to use after that.

I'd say all improperly maintained ones rust, apply some oil before you put it away.

Don't get me wrong I use fiberglass, don't have to worry about rust and oil.

I was going to answer this but then I heard the word squirrel and I got sidetracked lol
The physical answer is yes, anything you have that you could push down to detect a blockage like a plumbing snake or a push tape like this will in theory work.
