I got this with an earlier deal last month for $118.99 plus tax, shipped, direct from Oxo. Very pleased with it. Big upgrade from the Hamilton Beach 12 cup with insulated carafe it replaced. I like that it doesn't have a clock to deal with but some need a way to schedule auto-brew so beware.

With regards to the lack of a clock, I'd imagine all SCA certified coffee makers don't have it because if you want the best coffee you should grind the beans right before you brew and not have them sit overnight in the machine. That would mean you'd be at the machine to set it up and turn it on anyway.

I wonder if you could use a smart plug like a Kasa to start it up but it looks like it's an electronic-type switch that doesn't stay on.

There are some scathing reviews about this brewer -- overflows 1 out of every 10 brews, coffee doesn't stay hot in the carafe, impossible to pour without spillage, expensive filters for single cup brews. Any merit to these complaints?

Overflowing where, at the coffee grinds? From what I've read, that's either the coffee grind being too fine or filter not seated properly. There will always be negative reviews, but unless there are a lot of the same complaints I'd take with a grain of salt. Don't underestimate the stupidity of people. Either that or a defective unit. Reviews I've seen have been favorable.

There actually a lot of reviews that talk about overflow. It's the biggest complaint from what I read. I purchased but might return based on the consistent reviews of overflow and the fact you need kalita 185 filters for single cup pours. Didnt realize they were hard to find/expensive.

I've only used it a few times since I got it but it works great for brewing small quantities of coffee in my experience so far. Keep in mind that the one to four cup attachment that uses those expensive filters isn't really necessary. You can just use the normal filter basket with normal size filters. I haven't had any issues with overflowing and it's really easy to pour from the carafe. I guess time will tell but I don't give those negative reviews much credence at this point.

That's good to know! I really wanna keep it since I got such a good deal on it. So you've brewed 2-4 cups with the regular size filter? Notice a difference in quality?

I have this too. Overflow happens if you leave it on carafe mode and brew a single cup because the carafe is what allows the coffee to flow in carafe mode. These people are just f-ing up (which I have done too and it sucks), but as long as you focus and put the slider back in single cup mode there's no overflow.

I've brewed as little as 4 cups several times with the regular size filter and it work great! It's super fast too. I can't believe I put up with the slow ass Hamilton beach 12-cup insulated carafe coffee maker it replaced. Love it!

Yeah, it wouldn't surprise me one bit that this overflow problem is a user error. Some people aren't very bright.
