I have this one and my brother in law is 325. He floats just fine in it. no issues. It's a really great kayak.

It can't be done "cheap", but it can be done "cheaper". We own four kayaks, two of which are fishing kayaks (although most of my fishing is actually taking my daughter, so we're in the "non-fishing" tandem kayak more than the fishing ones!). For them, I've bought 4x$40 paddles, 4x $40 paddling life jackets, 2x $15 milk crates w/zip tied lid, 2x $15 anchors w/paracord and a diy pvc/pool float "buoy", a couple old mayo jars with holes poked in them for a bait bucket (shrimp mostly). I use fishing gear I already had, except I added a pair of fish grippers instead of the net I use from land. In all, other than the yaks themselves, I've spent only about $400. We use them on a local creek or our river in mild whitewater and take them camping where I fish, so we get a good bit of use out of the kayaks and the gear.

I think this would work fine as long as you aren't trying to go great distances (then you might want a longer more "aerodynamic" one). The only thing that makes this a fishing kayak are couple holes for rods behind seat and bungy cord for strapping gear down. And … the olive color helps so the fishes can't see you coming.

Here is my "modified" fishing kayak equipped w/ motor, 5 fishing rod holders a nice fish finder. In general it's a nice kayak.

That's a sweet deal too - but note that it doesn't include a paddle or the access hatches. Both have the same molded in skeg at the back, which may be why I find this one tracks nicer than my other 10 foot kayak.

We don't fish but I bought the Lifetime Angler used for my daughter (who to my surprise, loved the color). The front rod holder is removable, and the rear ones are flush with the deck.

The guy I bought it from noted that you should always plug the two scupper holes under the seat, as they are high enough up that they are never useful for draining but always end up getting your butt wet when you get in.

I disagree with the "2nd best day" comment, which does apply to most boats, but to me doesn't apply to a canoe or a kayak which require zero maintenance. Find a great price like this, then save $40 each time you use it over renting one, then sell it for most of what you paid for it.

I bought his yak from TS last spring (nearly $300) and used it dozed of times on small rivers and ponds. Its one of 3 I have and I can tell you for $200 its the best sit on top you'll find. Its wider for more stability than my Pelican and Old Town. Also the seat back is slightly higher providing more comfort. It's not a sit on chair back but better than the Pelican I have.

Track means to move straight through the water without fishtailing around a lot with each stroke of the paddle, and also resistance to being blown off course. I find this kayak tracks better than another I have of the same length, perhaps due to the molded in skeg (rudder like structure at the aft end of the hull).

10 feet is a short kayak. It will sit lower in the water than a longer kayak and offer more resistance when paddling. It won't track as well as a longer kayak. But it is also easier to load on the car.

Also should note that canoes also make for a good fishing boat option. They have more utility as you can also take them out for a leisurely paddle with partner or kids and/or tandem fish from them. Tend to track much better than SOT kayaks and more stable since you can sit down in the canoe rather than sitting on top of boat like this style of kayak. They are also usually easier to transport from car to water. Top of the line SOTs are nice but very heavy to provide solid bounancy and you really need a trailer to transport and launch them as carrying them from your car to the water will get really old fast if you are young enough and have the strength.

If you can score a used canoe made of royalex they last forever.

As a entry level kayak for cheap, it's just ok. Should be fine for creeks, rivers, lakes without bigger waves. Don't expect much with regards to performance as it's too short to have any decent tracking, glide, or stability. It's rated at 275 and with a 10' length, one will be sitting low if over 200lbs. If one doesn't like the sport, it should sell on CL if you hate it. I have 5 kayaks of various length with the shortest at 12' which I consider the minimal for decent performance.

For seats, in a sit-in, I have 3 Stadium foam cushions. 2 under my butt and one behind, between the back of the cheap seat and the mold.
Has lasted years and years.

Get a thin stretch line to tie the paddle to the kayak in case you drop it. Got mine cheap on ebay.

This 10ft sit-on is not for ocean. Maybe in a tropical setting where falling off is part of the fun.

Great find OP.. I configured my own from a std 10ft Lifetime.

These SOT Kayaks handle more like a raft, so adding a removeable skeg will really help with tracking. Ask me how I know ;-)
