Weight capacity is 275lb.. can any fellow bigger boys confirm the bouyancy will support our mass or will I start listing like the Costa?
I have this one and my brother in law is 325. He floats just fine in it. no issues. It's a really great kayak.
It can't be done "cheap", but it can be done "cheaper". We own four kayaks, two of which are fishing kayaks (although most of my fishing is actually taking my daughter, so we're in the "non-fishing" tandem kayak more than the fishing ones!). For them, I've bought 4x$40 paddles, 4x $40 paddling life jackets, 2x $15 milk crates w/zip tied lid, 2x $15 anchors w/paracord and a diy pvc/pool float "buoy", a couple old mayo jars with holes poked in them for a bait bucket (shrimp mostly). I use fishing gear I already had, except I added a pair of fish grippers instead of the net I use from land. In all, other than the yaks themselves, I've spent only about $400. We use them on a local creek or our river in mild whitewater and take them camping where I fish, so we get a good bit of use out of the kayaks and the gear.

Great find OP.. I configured my own from a std 10ft Lifetime.

These SOT Kayaks handle more like a raft, so adding a removeable skeg will really help with tracking. Ask me how I know ;-)

Also a couple of plastic sawhorses keep it off of the ground

i have this kayak - it's a beast. Fine on large bodies of water. Slow paddling. Stable for fishing but not great for covering a lot of water. It's a heavy boat.
It's a steal at this price. No brainer and you could easily sell it if you don't like it.

I don't love it but it's decent for fishing.

I'm 6'-6" 230 and wish I could have started kayaking a while back with something like this one because of the price. I started with a good one, though - I bought a Field and Stream 12' Eagle Talon [paddling.com] from the Field and Stream store 5 years ago when they had a sale for $330. GREAT deal on a nice kayak which apparently they don't even make anymore. They had gotten up to around $500 during Covid last year.

This Lifetime kayak ought to be awesome for just about anybody, especially starting out. Look on Craigslist, too, to see if you can find some good deals on kayaks now that it's cold. Great time to buy! I've had the Eagle Talon as well as a Vibe Sea Ghost 110 that I paid $825 for. Both were great kayaks, but my rear end went to sleep in about 15 minutes on both of them. I now have a Sun Dolphin Sportsman boat [sundolphin.com] that I got for around $400 or so. It fits in the back of my Tundra with no problem at all, and it sits up high so you can get good range for fishing as well as comfort. I can fish in this all day - I would be pained to fish in my kayaks for more than 30 minutes.

seeing quite a few on CL sitting unsold, never heard of the brand before but this is cheaper than used.

Everything sells if it is priced right. I would be amazed if this couldn't sell used for $200.
Also - this is definitely the wrong time of year to sell a kayak so I would argue the "research" is flawed.

Separately - CL? Not a good venue for sales anymore, at least around here. FB Marketplace is where the action is.

This will not track well in those conditions. You'll want something longer.
If you use it in the bay, shelter away from the open ocean, you will be fine.

I may need to take your advice, I have several things listed on CL at good price and not a bite. I may try FB but was trying to avoid it... I have a better supply chain with all these slickdeals.

I use a Wilderness Systems Ride 135 but was looking for something to get my wife and daughter
out with me and picked up 2 of these Lifetime Anger 10 footers a couple of years back. I have
taken one out solo every now and then when I didn't want to manage the big one.

You are not going to be covering a lot of water with these and tracking leaves something to be
desired but they are capable little yaks especially for the $200 tag. If you are new and or young
with a limited budget and don't want to spend $1,400 like I did on getting the Ride135 outfitted,
this will work fine for the occasional river float.

I just ordered two. Are these any good for recreational rowing, or are these specifically for fishing? Just doing it on the local lake, no open water.

I'm new to kayaking terms, so be nice. Wink

My friend has a Yellowfin 130T, which is great because it can be used for 1 or 2. Since it sounds like you have multiple, I'd go with a Canoe. I love my 3-man canoe and it has a rear transom for a trolling motor. It was regularly $479, but went on sale for under $400 back when Dicks carried it. Academy carries a similar one, except no transom.

When we take our daughter (she's 5), we put her on the front of our kayks facing back towards us, and then have her sit between our legs if we are going through rapids (usually class 1s). So that is another option for you.

I wouldnt go on a day trip with this and I wouldnt buy it if you have back problems (that seat is ultra cheap) but if you're buying this for a lake house, I think its perfect actually.

Most of the time people go out for no more than 40 minutes. Why buy $1000 kayaks for that? It's silly. These are a much better option.

But again, I wouldnt buy this for your main kayak, its not comfortable.

Should be fine, as long as you aren't expecting racing speed and just taking your time....

Sundolphin or Pelicans are two of the options I've been considering along with the kayak. I'm on the bigger side (6'0, 285) and wouldn't mind something that won't kill my back/butt.

Do you have a motor? If not, how difficult is the paddling/navigating on the sundolphin? How hard to launch compared to a kayak?

I do have a motor, but most of the time I paddle with a kayak paddle. It's not easy, but I like getting the exercise, and I don't paddle long distances anyway. If I need to go far I attach the motor, and if I'm playing around in a smaller pond, I use my paddle.

I'm telling you, my rear KILLED me on any kayak. My back would hurt badly, too, so I had to sell them. I hate it because kayaks are very easy to get in and out of any water, but the Sundolphin is not bad for an approximately 100 pound boat to maneuver. Well worth the money vs. a literal pain in the butt.

Thanks... that would also allow my wife to go out with me sometimes without needing to worry about her paddling (back & shoulder issues). I appreciate the big-guy perspective.
