I was in the market for a hammer drill. I decided to take the plunge and switch platforms to Milwaukee. Coming from Bosch, which I have loved, but felt it wiser to switch to Milwaukee these days, especially given constant sales.

For those that go for the combo, make sure you get the gen 3.5 Impact!

M18 FUEL 18-Volt Lithium-Ion Brushless Cordless Hammer Drill and Impact Driver Combo Kit (2-Tool) with Two 5Ah Batteries [homedepot.com] - $266.22 - didn't see this particular combo lower when searched

The price of this combo changes depending on the tool, I just picked the jigsaw and set it for store pickup at a different store.

Have to add both free tool and kit to cart to see adjusted prices (can return what you don't want after purchase).

Kind of torn with Milwaukee these days though since I realized their electric clutches have a minimum torque of around 60 in lbs vs most mechanical drills are 0 in lbs in their lowest state... Making me reconsider going with Milwaukee, since crazy amounts of power is only useful if you can dial it in

Probably only worth it if you're looking to get the drill and impact kit. For people who already have other Milwaukee tools and are looking to pick up additional tools, this isn't really much of a deal.

For the kit to be priced at $266, you need to pick one of the $199 tools as your free tool. Anything less will bring the price of the kit up more.

Can you return the combo kit and keep the free tool for it's pro-rated price or is the free tool the only thing you can return?

My understanding is you can keep either one it doesn't have to be the combo kit so if there is a bare tool that you would like you can just keep it and not pick up the combo kit.

This is my first time doing the hack but as I've read that is how it works if they've changed anything I guess I'll find out.

Nice, but I need this in the M12 line. Has this sort of deal ever happen in M12, ideally with the right angle die grinder as a third tool?

Perhaps they're onto the hack and finally closing it down? It was bound to happen with all the online advice on how to do it, like those Staples $25 coupons you could buy.

Hack worked fine. I sent the items to different stores and in the app was able to cancel the one I did not want. I picked up the item I wanted first but don't think that matters.

I cannot comment on the clutch part but not all Milwaukee drills are cable of 60ft/lbs of torque so this is cannot be 100% accurate.

So 60in-lb is too high? What kinds of fasteners would you use a power tool on that can't handle that? That's 5ft-lb.

I usually use the "1" clutch setting on drills for delicate electronics or putting screws back into plastic... If you search for Project Farms comparison of drills, he shows how the mechanical clutches on their lowest setting stop the second they hit any resistance (0 in lbs), while electronic still try to apply approx 60 in lbs.

Example, I was putting back together a push lawn mower the other day with my M12 fuel and even on 1 it would strip the screws in plastic, which I never had an issue with even on the cheapest of Hyper Tough drills. Just something to consider, I guess I'll have to invest in their screw driver, but kind of annoying I have to get another tool bc they sacrificed control on the low end settings of its clutch for what I assume is more power on the high end.
