Bob Chapek is running Disney into the ground with his nickel and diming.
Look for a Defunctland Youtube video about Fastpasses. Very interesting and culminates in how Disney used the Pandemic shutdown to shift the Fastpass system to the new paid Genie service. Now we're paying for something we always had for free! It's the Disney (Chapek) way!
It's just unpleasant. Make the tickets cost more for all I care but making me pay for shit over and over and over again straight up just feels bad.

It's an expensive cosplay for sure for an experience Will be interesting to see if the end product is better than the early reactions as it looks like Star Wars created by people who have never actually seen Star Wars.
No it looks like Star Wars for people that love the original Star Wars. Just turns out everything in the original Star Wars was built from cheap plastic in the 70s-80s with a bunch of large colorful buttons that don't do anything.

I'm kind of amazed at all the people complaining about corporations trying to squeeze every penny they can out of their customers. THAT IS WHAT CORPORATIONS DO. If the executives didn't do that, they'd be replaced by the shareholders. That's how capitalism works. That's what you get when you vote for politicians who support deregulating businesses. That same "freedom" that you are fighting for also gives corporations the right to rip you off.

How many other hotels offer free shuttles to the airport? Usually they're smaller hotels with a lot of competition that are desperate for your business. Disney is successful enough that they're not desperate for your business any more.

As to fastpasses, every other theme park company on the planet charges extra money for their line jumping schemes. Why would you expect Disney not to do the same? No longer getting something that you never paid for is not a hardship. No one is forcing you to pay to cut all the other (poorer) people in the queue.

Disney has always been an overpriced, luxury getaway location. Now, they're actually acting like it. I bet those of you who own Disney stock are happy about it, too.

Hey, Mr. Chapek. Nice of you to mingle with us cheapskates on SD. Wink

Disney Cruise Line will still be doing airport transfers to Port Canaveral!

Mears (who currently runs the Express) is still a few dollars cheaper… but without the train theme. https://www.mearsconnect.com/pricing.html
Mears also has shuttles after 9PM while the Sunshine express last shuttle is at 9 PM.

The problem with replacing Fast Passes with a new pay option is you'll likely wait longer/get on fewer rides for the same ticket price. The old Fast Pass system was fair because everyone was bound by the same rules. They didn't just add a new higher price ticket tier. With a reported 1/3 of people shelling out for it, the other 2/3 have a devalued ticket. If more people pay for Genie, eventually it loses its purported benefits to the people that pay for it, until it becomes something you need to get to get on more than a few rides per day.

That was true of the original Fastpass and just about every other line cutting scheme (for free or upcharge) ever created. Everyone always had access to Fastpass, but some people chose not to use it. Everyone has access to it now, but some people choose not to pay for it. Anyone can buy VIP tickets to nightclubs, concerts or festivals to get in more quickly (making the line longer for everyone else), but most people choose not to spend the money. Anyone can buy an upgrade on most flights that lets them board early (and makes the line longer for everyone else), but most choose not to.

If I buy a 10 day ticket, that also makes the lines longer (on those days) than someone who buys a 5 day ticket. I'll get many more rides than those people will. Is that fair?

Clearly, if 1/3 of the parkgoers are choosing to pay for the service, they have decided that it is worth the money to them.

As I said, this is nothing new.

Are you seriously complaining that a luxury vacation that the average American could NEVER have afforded (even when the parks opened 50 years ago) isn't fair?!?

This is what corporations do. This is how capitalism works. It's NEVER fair.

Then how was Iger, CEO for 15 years, able to keep his job with DME running and no pay to ride system? With your rational, the board would have fired him year one.

The same way every other corporation ran - until a new and more profitable scheme came along. Corporations have one responsibility: to make more and more profit for their shareholders. It doesn't matter if those levels of profit are sustainable long term. If they can wring another dime out of their customers for their shareholders, they will.

I'm not saying that it's right. But it's the system we keep supporting and voting for.

The only thing that can keep corporations in check are the courts and governmental regulation. But most people vote for politicians who oppose any regulation of government. And then we complain about the results online -- after it's too late.

While disneyworld had the free max pass, disneyland charged for it. So for the last 5(?) years or so, fastpass access was $20 more. Yeah you got all the pictures in the park you wanted, but how many times do you need a photo in front of the castle? I'm not sure of the difference(s) between paid fastpass and genie, but they may be very close for disneyland regulars. Now genie+ is a whole different beast.

Yeah I'm no longer going to Disney. Astronomical costs for the privilege to wait in lines for hours. No thanks. For Christmas gifts this year I'm planning a family trip to Clearwater beach instead and I bought season passes and meal plans to Six flags. Living in New England I have 6 different Six Flags parks that are drivable.

All of that is still much much less expensive than one trip to Disney.

Sorry buddy, you're not convincing anyone with this corporation and capitalism excuses shtick. Disney always made money hand over fist with everything from ticket prices to hotel reservations to theme park food and dining.

Monetizing fastpass and every other small little thing that was once "free" (I use the term free loosely, the price of the overall trip and the money you spent at Disney pretty much covered the expense of most "free" things but you felt good because you got something extra for all the money you spent on the trip)... Is nothing but nickeling and diming the customers.

Like people have said, it's about perception. Charge more for ticket, increase the price of hotels but give us something that makes us feel we are appreciated instead of us feeling like we are cattle being milked for every dime.

You and the CEO of Disney need to read some "How to get people to like you" books. No kidding, I recommend 'How to Win Friends & Influence People' by Dale Carnegie.
