In November when it was at this price I got one from Best Buy in Open-Box Satisfactory condition for $291.99 + tax. It looked brand new for me -- couldn't really find a single blemish on it, and Chrome OS devices are so easy to powerwash and return the software to factory condition

At that price this laptop is an absolute no-brainer. The internals are just exceptional and a pleasure to use, especially with the fingerprint reader. The 250 nit 19:6 screen is definitely the worst aspect of this laptop, but if you're not picky then the rest of the laptop is great.

I personally would pick Acer 713 (ideally refurb) over this if I had to pay $450, but if you find an open box (currently none in my area) then I'd pull the trigger without hesitation!

The 713 is hardly available anywhere in both, refurbished and open box.
This HP is being shown 14 miles away for $360 satisfactory condition. Thinking of pulling the trigger... After driving for 14 miles.

If you are a web only person, try this if you have never tried an "expensive" powerful Chromebook. It will blow your mind.

Open Box satisfactory $313. Seems like a great deal. But I already have a Chromebook similar to this. It works great.

It rips through web pages better than other 2021 Intel and AMD ryzen laptops I have. The intel i7-11390H and Ryzen 5850 are technically faster but windows and their touchpads get in the way. Besides, in windows land I have to be more careful what I click. On a Chromebook I can basically click whatever without a thought pretty much and be safe.

Sure, webpages... but it's the vast majority of what people do these days.

So, if what you do these days is majority web, you should at least consider or try dual-wielding!

If $450 is too much to greatly simplify the web-side of your tasks, then buy an open box. After a powerwash they're basically new anyway. That's why I get to sample so many Chromebooks, I buy what interests me and it's a cinch to sell. Anyway, open boxes of these seem to go pretty quick because people know that.

Well said. Agree totally. Bought this last sale and it's been great. Even the nitpicked screen is still plenty bright IMHO, plus I like the small bezels. I like the trackpad and keyboard more than my Pixelbook Go, too

What do you think of the audio via the up-firing speakers?

Not at good as the Pixelbook Go, but still respectable. I tried the HP X2 and they were HORRIBLY weak (though I've heard of 2 very distinct camps, so maybe it was a hardware issue on... Half?). I would rate them as a solid "Good". Enough to watch YouTube, Netflix, etc just fine.

Speakers are loud and clear surprising since most newer laptops come with crappy low ones.
