I know this deal on the free iPhone SE for new customers has been posted, but I don't think many people know about the free upgrade for existing customers with older 3G incompatible phones.

Cricket/AT&T networks are turning off 3G service in February 2022, making many phones incompatible. If you are receiving texts from Cricket saying your phone is incompatible, you are eligible for a free iPhone SE (or Moto G Stylus 5G) upgrade. This deal will work for all lines on your account that are receiving the Cricket message about incompatible phones.

When you upgrade a line through the website you will see the iPhone price of $249.99. Click to proceed to checkout, and before placing the order you will see "3G $249.99 Targeted Offer-Mfg/Dist Coupon - $249.99", making the phone free.

I was told by the Cricket store owner that this deal should be good until Jan 6th.

I currently have Cricket 5 lines and pay 125/month. We received the message for three of our phones. I wonder I could just order the phones for free, swap the SIM and still pay for the 125/month?
Yes. You can order and it won't change the plan. But if you are doing online only one order at a time. You need to activate the new one before placing the 2nd order. You ca go to store and get the same promotion. I am on grandfathered 5 lines for $100 and replaced 3 lines with Moto G stylus 5G. There is also a limit of 3 orders online.

Nice offer by Cricket but I wonder how many still using 3G phones currently.
It's 3g capable phones. This includes 4G phones that are 3g capable. So quite a few!

I'm on Metro for 4 years and can never find a reason to go back to Cricket which I was on for like 4 years.

Metro gives 50GB high speed data, unlimited data, Amazon prime, Google one, 15GB Tethering, all for $120 for 4 lines.

Can someone explain to me why they stay on Cricket?

One reason I think may be coverage. When I go hiking in like Zion there are places I don't get perfect reception so I don't know if that's the reason, maybe ATT had better reception in rural areas.

I have a Galaxy S5, model Samsung-SM-G900AZ purchased directly from Cricket in 2015. It has 4G LTE, but I don't think it has pure 4G. Would it qualify for a free upgrade?

I also get the texts and the interrupted phone calls from Cricket. The problem is phones that don't support VoLTE (digital voice instead of analog voice). I have a Moto X4 which actually supports VoLTE, but Cricket refuses to activate it on my phone because I didn't buy it through Cricket.
I was told about the free phones offer at my local store and thought about the Moto G Stylus 5G, which is a really nice phone, but for some reason it doesn't have NFC, which is useful to use with Google Pay to pay for things in other countries.
I'm going to check out T-Mobile today. They have a 4-line plan w/autopay for $140, then a Hometown Discount of 25% which brings it down to $105/mo. Also, I would get free Netflix and free (slow) data and texting in over 200 countries. T-Mobile has the Moto One 5G Ace for free, but also BOGO iPhone 13 and BOGO Samsung S21 5G, so I might get a flagship phone for once. I do like the 2-3 day battery life of the Moto, as well as the chop motion for the flashlight.
Decisions....

Is there a reason we need to activate one before placing another order? Since this expires on 1/6/21, we might just goto the store to grab the upgrades. We're also on the 5/$100 plan.

EDIT: Placed an order for one and tried for another with a different line and got "You already have a line or phone awaiting activation. Once you receive and activate your new phone, you can order another."

One bonus for using Cricket is buying the refill cards from Kroger online for 13-15% off, which reduces the monthly cost of 4 lines to ~$87, and you can also use them as a credit when buying new phones.

Edit: Oops, sorry! I just got off of Cricket Chat and they said you CANNOT buy a phone with account credits.

I got a message for this and was using a OnePlus 5T. I was completely happy with that phone and would have probably kept it another year or two. Had no idea this applied to existing customers! Thank you!

I was getting the incompatible message on an LG G6 back in September so I switched phones back then to one on their list. Not currently getting the message of any of my 6 lines.

But I wonder what if I put my sim back in an LG G6 to see if I can get this deal to keep as a back up phone.

I still am. IPhone 3G was the first to offer as new and it became very popular back in 2009. That was 12 years ago‼️🤯

I have 3 lines. Your plan on Metro costs me $120 as well (the discount only kicks in the 4th line onward). In Cricket I pay $90 for 5G unlimited data (no tethering, don't use it). Even if I add the $2 a month from Google One and the $13 from Prime it still doesn't make sense to me to switch. If I had a 4th line then I'd probably switch, so it all depends on your situation. Signal is great where I'm at.
