I know this deal on the free iPhone SE for new customers has been posted, but I don't think many people know about the free upgrade for existing customers with older 3G incompatible phones.

Cricket/AT&T networks are turning off 3G service in February 2022, making many phones incompatible. If you are receiving texts from Cricket saying your phone is incompatible, you are eligible for a free iPhone SE (or Moto G Stylus 5G) upgrade. This deal will work for all lines on your account that are receiving the Cricket message about incompatible phones.

When you upgrade a line through the website you will see the iPhone price of $249.99. Click to proceed to checkout, and before placing the order you will see "3G $249.99 Targeted Offer-Mfg/Dist Coupon - $249.99", making the phone free.

I was told by the Cricket store owner that this deal should be good until Jan 6th.

I was getting bombarded with texts and they were interrupting my calls to tell me my note 10 lite won't work after February. I've been on cricket for well over a decade and brought people into it with referrals but not being able to use a phone I got a year ago rubbed me wrong so I jumped shipped to mint. They've got the buy 3 months get 3 months deal going on ($10/month for the same data as cricket) and it was a pretty painless switch. I get roughly the same service quality but their wifi calling seems to be way better than crickets so that's been nice.

Update: Even though it was showing $109 for upgrade on Moto Stylus after 3-4 minutes (maybe longer for you) on the checkout window it finally showed the $109 off coupon! It seems like Crickets

My buddy has the deal for the free iphone SE but it's showing $109 for the Moto G Stylus 5G. He has a BYOD LTE phone that isn't compatible with the VOLTE so maybe that is a factor.

I am eligible for a new phone (typing this on my OG pixel xl). Does anyone know if you can order a new phone using my phone number but let someone else on my account use the new phone?

Hmm I was able to check out for $0.00 on one line on the SE wish it gave a discount like that for the XR. Debating if I should try on other lines. I did not get the text message, but checked via going through checkout as an upgrade.

I was able to claim an iphone se and the moto g stylus 5g for my parents. The iphone was exactly as expected. The moto g stylus came preinstalled with a lot of games and other apps I did not want. It also popped up a full screen ad for some service it is pushing after I unlocked my device once. That is completely unacceptable. I uninstalled the junk apps and other cricket apps I did not want but after a few reboots they reinstalled themselves. After some googling, I found out I need to disable an app called "Mobile Services" that cricket uses to reinstall things the user uninstalls. Mobile services has nothing to do with how your phone functions (it is not "Carrier Services" or something important like that). It is rebranding of Digital Turbine Ignite (DTI).

I went a step further and used ADB to remove the Mobile Services app (aka DTI) from my phone. After enabling android debugging in developer options and connecting the phone to my desktop, I entered the following into terminal.

adb shell
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.dti.cricket

I then uninstalled all the junk apps again (and used ADB to uninstall the apps that I couldn't uninstall the usual way). I assume Mobile Services may reinstall itself after an update, so be prepared to delete it again.

Besides that, the moto g stylus 5g seems great for an older parent. Huge screen, huge battery. No wireless charging and no google pay (no NFC chip) but an older adult may not really care about those things.

Metro has account number on first initial service receipt and pin is something they ask you to add during initial line set up as well. As long as you keep that you don't need to get in touch with them about it even.

Maybe try just putting in her existing sim instead of activating the new one that comes with the phone. Changing the sim may require a plan change.

Changing the Sim does not change the plan. I did existing Sim on one line and new Sim on the other 2 lines. It didn't change my grandfathered plan.
