MSI: less bulky and less tacky gamer aesthetics but worse GPU and worse ports availability.

Dell: Better GPU performance but the most tacky and bulky. Plenty of ports.

Summary: If you care about portability and looks, then MSI one is better but there are other laptops that does this much better. Otherwise, Dell one serve better both performance wise and as a workstation due to ports availability.
Assuming you purchased an open box model, you do not get a warranty. (returned my dell g5 with a 6600m for this exact reason)

You would get a 2 year warranty on the laptop from Costco.

The 2070 is probably about 5% faster than the 6600m most of the time but they will trade blows in titles that favor team green or team red.

The CPU however has 2 more cores and 4 more threads, a higher single core benchmark score and would most certainly be an upgrade

Both screens have a response time of around 4-5ms and a similar color accuracy (according to online reviews) so really it would come down these key differences for me:

Warranty
CPU
GPU
Screen size
Weight

and then how important each of those things are to you.

The MSI is probably the better performing machine overall, but the Dell is probably slightly better when it comes to gaming due to having a (slightly) more powerful GPU and the fact that the i7 has a higher boost clock
Userbenchmark is HORRIBLE. Use Notebookcheck. It even lets you compare to desktop GPUs in case you're not set on a particular form factor.

Did tons of research on this and decided to buy. My 4790k msi motherboard still chugging along so will give their laptops a shot. Will report back on Thursday when I pick it up. Really can't go wrong with costcos 90 day returns

I am so tempted by this one, it has all the specs I want: A high performance AMD CPU and AMD dedicated GPU, high refresh rate monitor, 16gb of RAM. Expect pretty good linux support from this laptop given its all AMD GPU setup.

I am just turned off by the gaming laptop aesthetic, and the plastic construction does not inspire hopes for long term durability. Last gaming laptop I had the pleasure of dealing with had a plastic hinge that fell apart.

I wish Lenovo made more decently priced thinkpads with dedicated gpus, they are very hard to find at a decent price. Thinkpads aren't what they used to be but still top tier in my opinion. Actually just had my t460s lid become detached from the hinge, solid hinges are useless if they are attached to plastic prone to failing. My t540p with a 730m and quad core full voltage processor just can't run much anymore, even lower end games. Just bought an external gpu adapter for it and will return this laptop if it ends up working halfway decently. The new m1 MacBooks are awesome too but still have a lot of gaming performance issues and lack support, hoping it will get more support in the upcoming years as the m1 chips have integrated graphics that are in a completely different league. Kind of regret not buying that BF $500 msi laptop from Walmart, this one is pretty overkill for my needs and that one would have worked out fine. I hate spending $1000+ on consumer grade laptops because they usually fall apart in the same way so the cheaper ones but time will tell

The 2021 laptop has a metal chassis. The 2020 had a plastic one. Reference:

Question to folks: I know this is a higher spec gaming laptop and has a GPU at par or better than RTX3060. I found another deal for a Lenovo Legion with GTX1650 which I know is lower speced, but also lower priced at 650$ compared to this at 1000$. Now my nephew is a small kid, just in 8th grade. So I am thinking of giving him the Lenovo Legion (deal link)- he plays mostly MineCraft and Roblox. Will the Lenovo Legion be able to play both of those at low settings? I have already bought this MSI one and it is arriving today but will return it to Costco

Point us to a Lenovo legion with the equivalent of a 3060 graphics card for 1k?
Looks like they raised the price (maybe check amazon) It won't have an RTX 3060 - it will only come with an RTX 3050 Ti, which works for me and warzone since I could take advantage of DLSS. I'd do research on most of the games you play and if you utilize DLSS a RTX 3050 Ti will work just fine for high refresh rate gaming. Plus G-Sync will help with screen tearing:

Alternatively, you could look for open box laptops with 3060 GPUs - I'll link a couple from best buy that could hit the $1000 budget but YMMV :
