Why there are flammability laws about mattresses, yet NOT on blankets is mindless.
For washing it I've had many of these type Costco blankets and didn't have any problems with them after many drying cycles on 3-4 different dryers. use low or medium heat and you should be fine. And of course it is Costco, and in my "friends" experience they will take the return back even if it is like 10 years later and you are just trying to down size for a smaller apartment.
Artificial fabrics are notoriously flammable which the industry counters with a fire retardent coating.
Unfortunately studies are starting to come in on health issues as byproduct of fire retardent coatings.
In our household we have chosen to invest in natural fabrics for those items that will be against our skin for major portions of our day.
