in general, plastics are not a very good way to store foods because they leach over time… the better question is if this oil is any good…

this company (Pompeian) is very well known, to produce subpar products that is. Also it is promoted by SD and Amazon employees regularly, so do your own due diligence...

Regarding the actual University study, these were the highlighted results:

THE BRANDS THAT FAILED THE TEST:

Pompeian, Bertolli, Colavita, Star, Sasso, Antica Badia, Primadonna, Carapelli, Mazola, Felippo Berio, Safeway, Whole Foods, Carapelli, Coricelli, Mezzetta

THE GUYS THAT PASSED THE TEST AND CAN BE TRUSTED:

Corto Olive, Ottavio, Omaggio, Bariani Olive Oil, Lucini, Kirkland Organic, Lucero, Olea Estates, McEvoy Ranch Organic, Cobram Estate, California Olive Ranch

People really need to do their homework before they post. Your statement is junk science. You can't say that all plastics leach over time. This simply isn't true. Cooking oil bottles are made out of PET which doesn't leach. Even if it did, the oil would go rancid from age long before it suffered any detrimental effects from being in plastic. All plastics are NOT the same and have drastically different chemical properties. Please don;t make the mistake of lumping them all into one group.

This comes out to about 25¢/oz. For comparison, generic non-organic EVOO is 17¢/oz at my local grocery store without any coupons or discounts. If you don't care about organic this probably isn't a deal.

Just curious, what's bad about the plastic bottle?

Thanks for the info.
Well this severely limits it for me besides a Costco half hour away none of the others are at my grocery store. I try not to buy food stuff on Amazon.

Really glad this is the smooth kind. I hate the rough, course kinds of Olive Oil. Really unpleasant to digest.

Isn't the point of extra vigin olive oil to get the pop of flavors vs other types? Definitely wouldn't use this kind for dipping or salad dressings where you want extra flavor.

maybe take a course in reading comprehension? Smilie glass is better than plastic in almost every way for food storage purposes. It is also widely known that plastics can potentially leach many types of dangerous chemicals that have been studied and tested. It is also generally accepted that there could potentially be a whole host of "other" chemicals that no one knows about. IMO that is enough to stick with glass, which is much more impervious to the elements. Anyhow, to each their own, you may enjoy using plastics if that is your thing. Smilie
