I paid $600 not too long after release, and no regrets. If you like VR, and don't want to sell your soul to the Facebook devil (Oculus), this is a great choice. The visuals, sound, and comfort are all fantastic.

Is this just the headset or does it come with the base stations and controllers?
What's in the box
HP VR Headset, 6m headset cable for desktop and mobile PC's, 2 motion controllers, 1 DisplayPort to mini-DisplayPort™ adapter, USB-C to A adaptor, 1 Power Adapter. Setup document.
Jumped on this last time the deal came up. No regrets. Does take some muscle to run at full scaling. The controllers leave a little to be desired but the tracking is no where near as bad as people say.
If you order make sure the cable you get in the box is the Gen 2 version. You will know because it has a power button on the breakout box. Mine came with the Gen 1 (even though supposedly they were all changed) but I was able to email support and get the Gen 2 cable shipped free of charge.

True, everyone should stay away from the demonic metaverse! Good review!
How does this compare with Valve Index, experience-wise?
Most likely smoother experience and way easier to setup since with Valve you will need to set up sensors and extra wires in your room. And also a third of the price since with the entire valve index kit it runs 1100 after taxes.

Don't be sarcastic. Reality check: quite a few people who decide to stay anonymous and play Oculus with newly created FB accounts to separate them from main accounts "violate TOS" and ended up getting banned - not just the account, but their Oculus BRICKED.
More ridiculous: people who didn't have FB accounts and created new accounts so that they can use their Oculus also get banned - not only the account, but the device linked with it.
Now it's up to your brain to guess why FB is so adamant about only letting those who will share their real social network play games.

Same audio, better visual quality, lower refresh rate, dunno about the mic, worse tracking as the G2 is eh inside out tracking VS the Index's base stations, no full body tracking support out of the box for the same reason.
G2 is great for sim use, i'd take a quest 2 or index over it for actual VR game use just because of the G2 only having two cameras to track your controllers and from what ive seen it can get pretty bad.

Is that an employee discount?

That will be plenty for a good experience. I had acceptable performance on a 1070, 3060 is much better now.
