Been looking to buy a 4k/120hz TV to pair up with my PS5 and Xbox Series X for the midrange price and this seems like a solid deal for a well-reviewed TV.

Anyone got personal experience with this set?

High level overview:

Panel Type: VA (excellent contrast at the expense of viewing angles)
Backlight: Full Array Local Dimming (50 zones on the 65")
Peak Brightness: Average (~700 cd/m² for small bright highlights)
Full 4K@120hz support with Freesync and G-Sync VRR

In many ways this is favorable to the 2021 Q80A which moved from the VA panel to an IPS-like panel, which many think looks worse.

I will say though - it feels like these prices aren't fantastic for the age of the TV. I've seen Q80A prices be more competitive in recent months.

You can get an Open Box 65" Q80T for around $900

I have the Samsung 2019 Q90r, which is a quasi-4k/120hz TV. The whole experience has turned me off to Samsung tvs, which is disappointing because I like Samsung products generally (I've been an android phone user for 10 years now). I say "quasi" because the input 4 does have 120hz capability, which I use with my Series X, but the TV was never officially rated for it (despite numerous rumors and reports that it eventually would be). For some reason tho, the TV acts up whenever I try to play a AAA-game (i.e. halo infinity) at 4k/120hz. I usually have to switch "game mode" on/off to get it to work (eventually I do get the 4k/120hz hdr, but it's a frustrating experience every damn time). I'm not the only one experiencing this with the 2019 model, but they may have fixed it on the newer QLED lines, which I believe the Q80T you're interested in is from... viewing angles are also pretty bad with QLEDs. An issue I did not really appreciate until I owned one.

All this to say that I regret not buying the LG OLED equivalent at the time and will certainly be switching over when I purchase my next TV (probably this year). If you are heavy into console gaming (my primary TV use), I've read the LG OLED line is worth the extra money (even 2019-20 models)

As someone who owned a 2016 QLED TV - I agree that the software support becomes non-existent the moment new panels are released. I had HDMI-CEC issues between my KS8000 display and Samsung soundbar of the same year that never improved over the 4 years I had them paired with eachother.

Replacing the TV with a LG CX OLED ironically fixed the problem - and it works better with the Samsung soundbar than the Samsung TV ever did.

I own the 2019 q80r in 75 in. While I like the television, I've realized that the internal apps play better than the streaming stick.

But the TV operating system is tizen and it doesn't respond to voice as well as Google assistant on the Android TV sticks. Bixby, in my opinion, is a huge flop.

So I had no choice but to put a streaming stick on it mainly for The voice interaction. Plus, tizen would not give me all of the results of my paid services. So if I want to watch a movie, it might be available on Disney Plus or HBO Max and it wouldn't tell me about it in the list of results it would display.

Having just purchased a Sony OLED with Google tv, I'm looking back and I should have bought a Sony 2 years ago instead of the Samsung.

Two great companies. I think Sony has the edge. I'll never buy another Samsung now. I'm in the Sony camp because of the motion handling and Google Assistant

FWIW Halo Infinite has issues with 4k/120 at the moment.

I have the 75 version of the tv OP is looking at. I really like it but I got the clearance Sam's price a few months back for 899$.

I also have it in a very bright room where OLED just couldn't compete with the brightness. For me the clearance price and location of the tv made me pull the trigger on the QLED. No regrets.

Only one HDMI 2.1 is a bit of a downer. But the Xbox gets that as it's my daily driver. PS5 got a different input. I suppose you could get a splitter if it could handle it but PS5 hasn't fully unlocked 4k/120 yet anyway. That's a bridge to cross later on.

All said and done I really like the tv. And it actually made my wife say she noticed a difference from our other Samsung 4k non QLED. Which is really saying something because she's always telling me she can't notice a difference.

For the savvy tv people Just out of curiosity why are there no good deals on TVs right now like the qn90a with the 2022's just announced and coming out soon?

Last good price on a 75" qn90a I saw was $2199 months back on the Samsung EPP site. Are we to expect super bowl deals soon to hit new lows around $2k or is the shortage and inflation on everything making it different this year?

Thanks

Seems like there is no glut of inventory due to supply chain constraints, so if they don't have to scramble to move out last years product before new models go on sale, then prices will remain static.

Normally, flagship TVs like the QN90A get heavy discounts right before the next flagship TV is going to be released.

The QN85A will most likely have its biggest discount in November, when stores become desperate to clear-out older TV models to make room for the current TV models that will be on sale for Black Friday.

In November 2021, the 75" Q8DT was selling for $999.97 at my local Costco. So I am predicting that in November 2022, the 75" QN85DA will go down to $999.97 at my local Costco.

I feel your pain with lack of deals on 75 inch oleds or even the high end neo qled you mentioned. Seems like an oled in that size for around 2k is still a pipedream. Besides refurbs or open boxes.

My projector is dying and the projector market has really not advanced much. My screen isn't that huge so would not be a big difference in size with an oled.

The T series rigs seem pretty solid with the TN panel.

The "newer" A series, with ADS panels (otherwise known as IPS) have pretty bad contrast it seems.

RTINGS.com has a pretty favorable review of this. https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews...-q80t-qled
