Sony for:
- Size
- Darker rooms
- Better sound
- PS5

Samsung for:
- Brighter rooms
- Need for viewing at wide angles
- Better UI
- XboxSX

Both are really good choices and I think it mostly comes down to the location you will put it in. Light in room, how far your seats are from the TV, what angle from the TV, etc.
I'm on the lookout for any deal on the 85".
Can you clarify why one is better for the PS5 and the other better for XboxSX?

I thought that you could get the student discount without a student ID? Does perks at work work for this one?

I am torn on this (or the 90) vs an LG OLED for a bright room with a wall of windows to the south. I also would like the four HDMI 2.1 ports on the LG vs just one on these Samsungs. Anyone have advice?
I saw the n90 in the store, a the salesman shined a flash light directly at the panel at different angles, with almost no reflection or glare. This is what they informed me was the difference between the n85 and n90 panels. I will be using the TV in a sunroom, so I will definitely go with the n90.

Aren't all 85" QN85's VA panel or no?
Check rtings.com. In the United States, QN85A is an IPS panel while QN90A is a VA panel. The VA panel is much better than an IPS panel. VA has much better contrast while IPS is prone to blooming and IPS glow.

No, there is no difference in longevity so it does not matter. The difference between IPS and VA is picture quality. VA has much better contrast and IPS has better viewing angles. But for the Samsung QN90A, the viewing angles are supposed to be good because of a special layer on the panel.

Costco version of Q90A is showing 4 hdmi 2.1's in specs, is this accurate?

https://www.costco.com/samsung-75...50822.html
This is wrong. The Costco specs is an error. Only 1 port is hdmi 2.1 capable.

85 inch qn85 is va panel if you see that on sale from Costco it's a va just fyi

It got taken off website few days ago but itl be back I assume after other TV's clearance out a bit
QN85A uses an ADS panel which is similar to IPS. It does not use a VA panel which is reserved for the QN90A.

Sony X90J. Better picture processing, better contrast, better local dimming, better blacks and better OS.

The only things the QN85A has going for it are anti reflective and and viewing angle.

The rtings review clearly stated the 85" variant of the QN85 is a VA panel. The other sizes are ADS, which is similar to IPS but technically not the same.

I am so on the fence about this. We are presently using a Samsung Q8F that is wonderful. But it is a 55" TV. We would like a slightly larger set for our living room and this QN85A 65" would do it all for us. We remain loyal to Samsung because without going into great detail, they treated us wonderfully a few years ago when another set failed and it was just out of warranty. Lets just say that the Q8F only cost us around $300 including tax. Smilie
