Was at my local Home Depot today and saw this Honda lawnmower on clearance. Decided to post it here because I almost never see Honda lawnmowers on sale or clearance. Regular price is $700 and it was in clearance for $524. They had a few here at home depot largo, FL.

Do you have a pic of the price? So they can price match?

I have one of these (older model) I don't think I could treat it worse. I change the oil once every 2 years. I kid you not I pull the start string one time in the spring (after all winter) and it comes to life. Don't think twice about this unless you want an EGO mower.

Thanks OP. I was going to buy this with a lowes 10% coupon but this is certainly better. None at the St. Pete store so looks like I'm heading to Largo or Pinellas Park.

Edit, why the down vote on this?

The transmissions in these lawnmowers is horrible. Lowes has replace four of these lawnmowers for us due to transmission failures.

The rear axle has plastic bushings that tend to rust and seize up. This adds a lot of stress on the transmission eventually overheating it.

I had the same problem and so did my neighbor with the ones from Home Depot.

I finally looked on YouTube and found a fix – require grinding a bit of material off of the axle so the bushing would fit loosely. Been fine since
The HRX217 has two different transmissions - VKA (variable) and HYA (hydrostatic). Based on my research and conversations with independent lawn mower repair shop, the HYA is the better transmission. Having said that, I know of two older HYA that have damaged transmissions that cost approximately $500 to repair. This making it not cost effective to repair. VKA is cheaper than HYA. My personal opinion is to stick with the HYA transmission.

how do honda gas lawnmowers compare to the new Toro 60v battery powered ones? would be using it on a 2.5k Sq ft lawn and mowing every 1-2 weeks in the spring through end of fall in, NNJ

your last sentence doesn't make sense... I stick with the more expensive to repair option?

I'm don't know about this particular model but Honda lawn mowers are made in North Carolina. They even box them up there

The only mower I would use. Have the HYA model and purchased a few from Craigslist for $100-200. New blades, filter, and oil will bring new life to these. I gave 3 away to friends and family, and everyone loves it. I never was a fan of those thumb control transmissions.

H-s have good engines & use less gas than my Toro B&S one. However, the SP Xmissions are junk and expensive to replace (50% more than my Toro) with more complexity to boot. Both startup the same. Never use any extra prep on either. Both use the same plugs and filters!

For a true SDer, need has never been a requirement to buy a slick deal - it just means you need to find a slick deal on grass seed, maybe a yard!

Was able to replicate. My store had them clearance but for 679. Took like 15 min to get someone to answer at OP's store to verify price and the store I was at was able to price match.
