Cruising around my local club today I came across this deal, just noticing the discount.

Frankly, I agree. I don't like these systems and they do look cheap IMHO, however I also realize they have their place. Just because I find them too low brow for my taste doesn't mean others won't find a use for them, and these seem to be pretty popular if you look at previous threads.

Now I will add that this kit may seem tacky and cheap. I personally use these shelves in all our closets but I don't use them with the same support poles as this kit. I use the rail system and the support brackets that the shelves sit on top.
For me this kit is good for the 6 shelves that it comes with and the misc hardware that comes with. 6 precut shelves and wall brackets and rubber end caps for $10 is a deal.

To me, if you have a shallow closet (e.g. not a walkin), these are OK especially for kids. For adults, you're probably going to be hanging a ton of weight in the closet and these types of systems are not good for that. For kids or general storage, however, they would be good because kids clothes aren't going to take up the entire ~ 5 foot vertical space that a typical closet rod would give you - what do you do with the rest of that space? (plus kids generally have less clothing that would be hung anyway).

Let me expand on your point. These are made in certain configuration to accept a hanging pole for clothes to be hung and still be able to put stuff on top. You need the wall support and support brackets I mentioned earlier. You also need to mount into a stud behind your drywall to ensure it doesn't fall.
As far as expandability, I'm guessing you can daisy chain them side by side but this leg support system is not for heavy duty storage.

That said, the plastic pieces that hold them to the wall are starting to fail a few years ago and I replace them with metal brackets when they do.

I didn't say people will pass on a house. I said they could offer $10,000 less. I have watched almost no TV over the last 30 years, and have seen a DIY show maybe 5-10 times in my life.
Are you really arguing first impressions and house warts do not affect the value of a house?
People aren't 100% logic machines so aesthetic warts affect house value more than they logically should Also, anyone who installs this in their house is more likely to have cheaped out on other stuff, like repairs.
