It looks like AMD is back to their tricks. Trying to get the last drop of blood from some good cow they had (after so many failures).
Did you read the comments? Besides being this is being a rumor (but supposed to be from a reliable rumor source), these CPUs may from defective wafers
Core.i5 12400 costs 170 dollars which is 70 dollars less than 5600x
Bring on the competition!
Sadly I am on an ASRock A320 board, and AMD has forbidden mobo makers from updating A320 boards to boot 5000 series APUs, even though they allowed 5000 series CPUs (and 4000 series CPUs and APUs) with a BIOS update.
I suspect this is why the APUs are cheaper than the CPUs (5600G is $40 less than 5600x). I.E. An APU buyer is more likely to also need to buy a new motherboard.
AMD did allow board makers to support both 5000 series APUs and CPUs on B450 boards. Maybe they will change their mind on A320 or maybe some l33t BIOS haxxor will make a modded BIOS. I would love to be able sell my 2600x and 1030GT and replace with a 5600G at this price.
Even with MCM designs, you get chiplets of varying quality that can be put together in different ways to make different SKUs. Like how a Ryzen 9 5900X uses two chiplets with two cores disabled on each to make a 12-core.
Naturally, after producing millions of laptop chips, AMD ends up with some chips that don't meet its standards for laptops or "G" desktop APUs for one reason or another, but could be repurposed. And that's how you end up with "Renoir-X", if they are actually planning to launch it.
It's the same story with the Xbox and PS5 chips:

From what I can tell [tomshardware.com], the 5600G isn't a huge uplift from the GT 1030. If a year from now your A320 doesn't look like it will ever get 5600G/5700G support, maybe the move is to get any good deal on 5600X/5800X/5900X, continue slumming it on the GT 1030, and replace that with a new GPU 2-3 years from now. Hopefully after market normalization.

Ten years ago? Ok get it all in one place and pay full tax etc still worth it to have B&M returns but now those bundles are cheese
So you can always price match to get your $50 off that you think they are overpriced, then they still apply the $20 off.
Fact is, if you are lucky enough to be near a MicroCenter, you simply can't beat them.
Hopefully they don't die, like many of the others in Tech's past.

These are Microcenters prices paired with equal multi-thread performance (with 12th gen having better gaming performance at the 12600k tier and up)
i5-12400 $169.99 | 5600x $239.99
i5-12600k $249.99 | 5800x $329.99
i7-12700k $349.99 | 5900x $449.99
i9-12900k $499.99 | 5950x $649.99
AM4 is also a dead socket now with less features. Compared to LGA1700 which will have an upgrade path and has more features. AM4 is slightly cheaper, but it doesnt make up for the large price gap in CPU costs.
AMD needs to drop prices to be competitive.
