Got it for $15 two years ago. The lights broke last year, and this year the spinning mechanism (the one that gives the fire illusion, you can't turn it off) started making a whirring noise. Great for $15, but pretty bad for $50.
Yep! It has a fan w 2 heat settings and some sort of thermostat function without showing actual temperature.

You can also run the flame visuals without heat.

I got one in December. The only thing I wish it had was a timer to turn it off automatically after a specified amount of time. I bought a separate timer for this reason.

Overall, I'm super happy with it. Warms an avg bedroom pretty well and the vibe is right if you can't have a fireplace.

Melted at the plug after a couple weeks of use. Have multiple others of different brands in other rooms. Never had issue. This thing damn near burned the house down. Took it back.

I have this one. I run it on a 10g extension cord and have a tp-link 15amp timer. I run it at half power most of the time. It doesn't produce a ton of heat despite the rating, and the blower is very weak. It is not bad for a very small space, and looks good, though.

Is this good as garage heater? I live in Midwest. Trying to keep may 150 sqft garage warm.
You'd probably want something like this. Decent price right now too.

Obviously, not unattended, and only when you are present and need it. It would heat up the garage rather quickly. Even though the description says for a garage, I wouldn't run for hours on end without opening the garage door for some ventilation.

To avoid a fire, connect directly to an outlet. No extension cords, WiFi plugs, power adapters. Any space heater must be plugged into outlet.

I do have an Alexa heater, safe.

If the remote switched outlet is capable of handling the current then it's fine.

If his short extension cord is 10g, assuming it's good quality, what's the difference in that and the romex cable that runs from the outlet all the way to the circuit breaker panel? I think most home AC romex is 12g-14g. Truly asking. I'm no electrician.

Well said. Not sure on "Romex" (that's a brand like Kleenex) but hopefully the nitwit that installs a high-amperage outlet has the appropriate wiring behind the outlet. Trust but verify I suppose. I ran 10AWG to my Garage's 30A 240V outlets so I know. Generally whatever AWG wire is at the breaker is the same as is what is at the outlet. Hopefully the homeowner has their insurance premiums up to date.

If you are well insulated, it'll work to keep from freezing. I run a 1500 watt space heater 24/7 in my detached 1200SF shop and it holds the temp to 50F or better usually. I have R-21 walls and R-55 ceiling insulation, 5 windows, 3 entry doors, and a one-stall garage door that isn't sealed very well (foam panel insulated at least) . I'm near Muskegon, Michigan. It was -2F this morning and 52F in the shop.

I do run another 1500 watt space heater by my legs at my computer for several hours a day though. If I want to really warm it up, I run my wood stove, but this season I haven't been using it because I'm storing too much stuff to feel like moving it away from the wood stove.

That's about $150/mo at my rates without the supplemental heater. I'm looking to install a mini-split heat pump eventually for efficiency.

I envy your insulation. I just built a 24x40 metal garage this past summer and just now finished installing Knauf 1.5" foil faced mineral wool panels tape sealed. Only R6.5 but a single 5000 watt gets me a 30 degree rise after four hours and holds it. I just now finished installing a second Dyna Glo 5000 watt garage heater to kickstart it up to temp. I wish I could keep one running but at $0.169/kWh it would be pricey. My plan is to add a ton more insulation to the ceiling this summer.

Is the heat source a bit low to set directly on carpet floor? Does the top get too hot to touch? TIA

Nope, new. It was YMMV via Slickdeals.

I lucked out on the purchase of my home. The outbuilding (just a shell at the time) was framed half and half with reclaimed 2x6 and 2x8 walls. I wanted to put more insulation in the 2x8 walls but was in a rush to finish insulation and interior walls before winter.

I spent a fair amount of time sealing any accessible gaps along the sheathing and windows as well. Caulk and foam for days!
