I love Cesar Millan, but this book is very outdated even for his work. A lot of the techniques he used in 2009 are not what his people do today after many years of animal abuse claims and lawsuits.

Some recent and old books which are now passed around the dog raising community are:

Good Owners, Great Dogs
by Brian Kilcommons, Sarah Wilson
https://www.amazon.com/dp/0446516759

Before and After Raising your Puppy
By Dr Ian Dunbar
(Good book for keeping track of puppy life stages)
https://www.amazon.com/dp/1577314557

I used to also have "Its Me Or The Dog by Victoria Stillwell" which still holds up to this day but it is not as comprehensive as the two books I mention above. Evidently, the television show Its Me or the Dog with her she regrets some of the techniques she used with the dogs in early seasons. The last 10-20 years have been a busy time for dog trainers so its important to recognize what techniques are and are not acceptable or you could end up psychologically-damaging your dog rather than train.
