This is an awesome deal. Low power relatively low hear processor that is plenty stout, adequate ram, and I bet anything there is room for an additional ssd in there either m2 or sata. Fantastic price and sell has yet to disappoint me on build quality even for their Inspiron line.
There's also a $120 cash back offer from Amex if you're spending over $599....since I need two for our kids... This is perfect!
That's a hard question to answer.

Is it good for someone just getting into coding for the next couple of years? Yeah, probably. I doubt he will be doing intensive AI programming or working with large datasets.

For smaller, beginner codes, just about any laptop will do. If he really enjoys coding and starts moving into more complex data analysis or program/game design, he may want something with more RAM, but that will be a few years away. I don't know if this laptop has soldered RAM.

I would get it for my 8th grader who is interested in coding if it was in my budget.

Have you checked into swapping a backlit keyboard into this unit? I'm not 100% sure it's an option but years ago I broke 2 keys on my Dell laptop and I was able to get a new / replacement keyboard on Ebay really cheap and it was an easy repair to do. There may be a higher model built on this same chassis that has the backlit keyboard that you can get and install cheap. Just a thought.
Great idea though in this instance assuming it's 50-80 for a keyboard, it might be just better to buy one that comes with it, since replacing the keyboard isn't as simple as SSD or RAM additions.

This has different specs, but should be good for most "productivity", browsing, and non-demanding games - https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N1UR3TN/ currently $800 used (WOW!), but I've bought 2 refurbs under this listing for ~ $200.
Great idea looking at refurbs though! These won't show up on the SD radar. I know of a group of people that buy refurb business class laptops of yester-years. $800 refurb reminds me of the used car sales market in this economy ...

My son is looking to code. He is in 8th grade. Is this a good laptop to start coding? Thanks in advance for any advise.
This is fine, I took a couple of C++ classes years back and the class PCs we used to code wasn't as fast as this was and it was fine. The only reservation I have is 128 GB is pittance for Windows. Of course if he wants to make a career of it, he will need a better PC but by then he will be knowledgeable about what he needs than some rando on slickdeals.

I just got this laptop for my father(72) before this deal came out. I was pleasantly surprised for the price this is an very good laptop. Quite quick for the price and not a ton of bloatware. Got an extra 8gb of memory coming the mail.

Its has everything however the processor will restrict the performance. Software like visual studio for c++ and pycharm or anaconda for python won't perform good
*perform well

You may need bit more ram to run heavy but this laptop is more than enough to run heavy program IDE like visual studio etc. if you are on budget ofcourse.

I bought this laptop but with only 4GB ram a few weeks ago for just over 300$. installed 16GB ram, 1tb nvme ssd and put linux on it. I've been pretty impressed. I was really concerned that the CPU would be weak. its only a 2 core, 4 thread chip but it has been really responsive. only 2 cores, but they run fast. Even with windows on here it was much faster than I thought it would be for 2 cores.

I also compared the build quality of this to the dell 16 inspiron that most local costco had on hand and it was very compatible which is crazy given the price difference.
I was thinking of something similar, easy to install? Wondering what kind of memory and SSD you got that fits.. how much more did you spend? less than $200?
