You need to know when thought state is checked on the picture, you'll have to pay additional for state at the end. That happened to me

Matches deal from a few days back. And yes, there is an additional charge for e-filing a state return.

Worth noting there is also a free online H&R Block version for simple returns.

No you dont. You just have to pay to efile your state. That is common practice with all paid tax software. The state download is included. Just print it out and mail it in.

For simple forms I recommend Cash app free. Amounts matched to turbotax and taxact.

I wish you always pushing free tax service guys would give it a rest. Every single software post we have to wade through these free service recommendation posts. Free is not for everybody just because you like it. Just my opinion. This is a great deal on great tax software

Mail in state CA - 3 months processing time.
Mail in federal - 9 months.

Like other guy mentioned, I also used cash app free tax. I used it for W2, investment (1099-*) and child credit and it seems to work fine. Dumb question: What complicated form requires paid software?? Just want to know if I missed anything and should use paid software.

That varies per person.

Essentially comes down to the forms supported.

Eg online https://www.hrblock.com/tax-cente...ted-forms/

So if your needs exceed what forms the online version supports, you'll need to go up the versions until you get to the one that does.

If it's too complex to figure out, best to hire the tax accountant that knows all the tricks to hide your income.

Also imports from other systems. Paying a nominal fee to not have to type in pages and pages of stock trades is worth it to me.

Will this cover me? I bought a home, had a kid, sold stock and crypto long and short term, ton of medical bills so itemized deduction?
