If you are somewhere where it doesn't really matter all that much if your light works or not (walking your dog), get the cheap one. If you absolutely need to depend on it working (in a cave), get a good one.

Are you comparing apples to apples? This Black Diamond has an IP67 water resistance rating, a sophisticated user interface, an LED battery level meter, and regulated circuitry for constant light output. All features that may be important to certain users. Please show us this sub $10 Duracell with the same/similar features.

Duracell vs Black Diamond are marketed to two different types of customers. Duracell may be okay for a home owner needing a headlamp but the Black Diamond is designed and marketed for outdoor enthusiasts. Just like any item, premium brands costs more despite quality being similar.

The black diamond probably weighs less, I'm not sure which exact Duracell model your talking about for $10 but this storm weighs 4oz?

I know hardcore hikers are willing to pay premiums for lower weight items and they get obsessive over this because it all adds up over long distances.

Same specs minus the reliability and durability. Headlamp specs don't do much good if it won't turn on or the buttons become faulty.

I use these when I go under houses, super bright.. better stuff than the cheap ones.. I had a craftsman one I picked up for >$10 at Lowe's.. when adjusting the lamp angle the head lamp fell off the band, I guess it's removable… but you could never figure out how to put it back on the band in the dark…, complete engineering flaw or lack there of., you get what you pay for…
