AllTrails has other features, too, like reviews and tips. And other things, I'm sure. But you don't need to spend a monthly or yearly fee to get offline maps to go hiking in places with no cell service.
For OsmAnd, the free version limits you to 7 downloads (ie 7 states). You can get the full version for free if you use F-Droid [f-droid.org], a curated app store that solely lists free and open source apps. Since OsmAnd is fully open source, they allow you to install the full version for free from their site or from F-Droid's marketplace. However, if you install it from Google Play, they charge a fee to unlock unlimited downloads.

The new midrange Pixel outperforms most of the aging iPhones in my social circles. iPhone simply has staying power and social inertia. It's like Facebook - it just works, it is kinda limited but not in ways that really matter, it'll never go away...
If anything, I never run across apps that are Apple only anymore. It used to be all the time. But most developers now know they have to develop for both.

I use AllTrails all the time on my Pixel

I followed their directions on my last hike to lock the app and close every other app except Alltrails & Altimeter, and it helped but then I opened my camera to take a picture, and didn't discover until later it paused again. Then I noticed the website says to take pictures through the Alltrails app instead of phone camera app... Also discovered the camera app was extremely slow to almost unusable to respond anyway with Alltrails in the background.
Generally I like to use these apps for reference when out on a trail but I think everyone here obviously knows not to follow it blindly.
I was hiking Mt Whitney last fall and this couple came walking through my camp obviously off trail. I advised them that the trail was a different way and if they kept going that way they'd hit a cliff. They said "we're ok. We have AllTrails and it says to go this way. ". Five minutes later they came back saying they almost dropped off the cliff.
