This deal is not dead or expired, I just ordered it along with the 5ah battery showed up just fine. I think Hone Depot was just having growing pains trying to put their "buy Milwaukee OPE get a free 5ah battery" deal live.

I was able to order this deal yesterday. I shipped the string trimmer to my house and set the battery to pick up in store. The only options I ever had to cancel anything was either cancel just the string trimmer, or cancel the entire order (both of those options are gone now since it's been too long). Is there possibly something I did wrong? Or is Home Depot trying to close this hack? Anyone else have a similar experience?

If you pick up the trimmer in store, I'd advise to open and verify the battery is inside, just unpacked mine and the battery's missing along with one of the cardboard inserts being cut on the side where I assume it was slid out of.

I dint think Home Depot cares about the hack it's been going on for a long time they obviously would've fixed it by now. I did the opposite trimmer for store pick up and battery to ship. Went into my email confirmation and canceled the battery right away. I got an cancelation confirmation email and was never charged. Now today I got a weird shipping notification with another order number with tracking #. Either they sent me an extra trimmer to my house, sent the batteries, or it's just a glitch email. Wait and see I guess.....

Just live chat and request it, I had no options to cancel, rep in chat did it pretty quick and all is well.

Lucky. The CS rep told me they couldn't cancel it because it was a promotional item. I'll just have to resell the battery.
I ordered something else yesterday and swapped so the battery was shipped and tool was pick up. I was easily able to cancel the battery myself on that one.

Followed these exact steps, followed by going to the email confirmation to cancel the free battery and the trimmer with the 8.0 battery went down to $199.99 + tax. Thanks for breaking down this hack!

Odd, I did it twice in the twice in the same day since I had to take the first trimmer back since it was missing the battery. CSR at the store returned it instead of replacing so I had to buy them both again and cancel the battery for a second time.
