Random House LLC via Amazon has A Short History of Nearly Everything by Bill Bryson (Kindle eBook) on sale for $2.50.

Thanks to Deal Editor powerfuldoppler for finding this deal.

About this book:
  • Taking as territory everything from the Big Bang to the rise of civilization, Bryson seeks to understand how we got from there being nothing at all to there being us. To that end, he has attached himself to a host of the world's most advanced (and often obsessed) archaeologists, anthropologists, and mathematicians, travelling to their offices, laboratories, and field camps. He has read (or tried to read) their books, pestered them with questions, apprenticed himself to their powerful minds. A Short History of Nearly Everything is the record of this quest, and it is a sometimes profound, sometimes funny, and always supremely clear and entertaining adventure in the realms of human knowledge, as only Bill Bryson can render it. Science has never been more involving or entertaining.

This is an excellent book.
One of the few "required reading" books from school I both read and enjoyed. It's funny and does a great job boiling down complex information about astronomy, physics, and biology into digestible chunks.

Had the hard cover years ago. At this price even without being a Kindle user I'll purchase again just to have it digitally somewhere.

edit: scratch that, it's only $5 on Apple's store which is what I use. Peace

Excellent book!

Isn't there an updated/illustrated edition of this book?

They apply once you order it but don't show on the item page for whatever reason. I just ordered it and was charged $0.00.

Read this on my kindle from the library with Libby digital library. I really liked it. Surprising how many digital books you can get from your local library if they have the libby app at no cost. This is one I might like to have loaded on my kindle all the time though so I might buy at this price.
