FWIW - if you don't need one now, you may want to wait:
https://www.techradar.com/news/th...a-showcase

the price of these could come down more aggressively when the current Quest 2 is no longer the latest model...
Same price directly from Oculus (Meta) all day long for months. This isn't a Slickdeal at all. Also, the 128gb replace the 64 GB has the standard lowest one you can buy. So anybody trying to sell you a 64 gig for less than I would say 175 maybe 200 are way out of their league.
Perhaps so. I think they've lost close to 30 billion on it so far. 10 billion last year alone. This is a big bet on Meta and the metaverse.

There's not as much data to collect in the VR space as you may think. Meta has pretty much failed to integrate it's other products with Oculus. Even the messaging system is clunky. They had to remove the streaming part.

TikTok and Epic are both going to make devices to compete. TikTok bought Quest 2's manufacturer. They are launching the Pico 3 in Europe soon to compete with the Quest and TikTok has a much more active group in the target demographic. This is the biggest threat to Meta's gamble.

Epic will have maybe the best standalone hardware and their desktop game ports to mobile have run very well.

Steam is likely to enter this space as well, but it looks like they want to make a hybrid headset now that can share GPU with another device (computer) (Shared or split gpu) I'm a bit ignorant here, but it sounds good.

Apple will release their devices Spring 2023 and well... I think they are for a special target audience that isn't the general public.

But I'm not here to shit on the Quest. The Quest 2 is the best all around product out there right now. I'd recommend buying it from walmart with a 4 year warranty attached. But that 2 year on the refurb looks like a mighty good deal too.

Still requires FB/Meta account? Any developments on that front? I know there was a rumor that they were going to do away with that requirement in 2022. That's the main thing keeping me from getting one.
Same.. Last I saw it still requires a Facebook account. Has that changed yet?

Got a 64GB refurb and it was basically brand new from what I could tell. I mostly Virtual Desktop from my Legion 5 Pro so don't need much local storage on it. Highly recommend - coming from someone who struggled with vertigo in the past. I get some eye/face fatigue after about an hour but I'm slowly adjusting and getting longer sessions.

Google Earth VR blows my mind. Also loving Tetris Effect. Can't wait to try Alyx...
FYI, Alyx can't be played on a Quest 2 natively, you'll need a relatively powerful PC to go with it. Just in case you (or anyone else) didn't know.

As someone who has only used VR with Google Cardboard and Samsung/Oculus VR with a GearVR set and a Galaxy S8 some years back - how much more am I going to be wowed by this, and is it worth waiting for the next model at this pt?

It's more than a rumor, Meta/Oculus themselves announced it. No movement on that front yet though, and no definite date or even timeframe for when they will implement the change.

They just want the clueless people to buy through their links.
People stop purchasing anything through this app, use google go find the item then buy it.

You'll be wowed, it's a million times better than those old solutions. At this price point, it's worth taking the plunge.

Games you should check out:

Walkabout Mini Golf
Beat Saber
Echo VR
Rec Room
Tetris Effect
Demeo

It works really well, assuming you sit relatively close to your router, your PC is on a wired connection, and you have a good (AC1600 or better, preferably) router. That said, if you're sim racing, you're probably sitting close to your computer anyway, so why not just plug in to it with the headset?

I believe that was a pricing error during 2021 black friday which only lasted a few hours before it was corrected.
Less than an hour.

I just finished my basement and am relocating my computer and rig. Ideally the rig would be across the room from the pc which would be direct connected to router. I'm assuming it will be okay with 1 gig fios. It would be the answer to my troubles quite honestly if it is a good solution.

oh and I would be running a long wire anyway for hdmi use but that doesn't fix the display port issue I have with my current headset which is an odyssey plus

Facebook banned my account because it was hacked. Lost access to every oculus game I purchased. What a horrible ecosystem they use that one thing is attached to the other. I'm out a few hundred dollars in games and now have a paperweight of a unit.

No other device would do that.

Is there any decent porn for these things yet? Asking for a friend.

Basically they are trying to add value to the product to entice people to buy that might be scared away by the fact it's a refurb. I don't know that it's exactly the case here, but for many products just because it says "refurb" doesn't necessarily mean it was broken or DOA - for many things, any returns are put into the same channel, from genuinely broken/DOA items to stuff that's returned for other reasons (didn't like the color or fit, whatnot, stuff completely unrelated to functionality)

You provided a great explanation ... but not the answer sought. My question is what is the difference between the two warranties? If they are basically the same, the two year warranty seems better,

Sure... blame it on the Quest. Not that you touched your eyes after poo.
