Its become an industry norm, shift some of the operation cost for contractors onto the customer instead of the parent company. Its no longer become a reward for excellent service.
Parent company enjoys higher profits from not having to pay contractors (delivery) a reasonable wage.
People defend the practice because the drivers need the money (true). However, the best way to get these drivers paid reasonably would be to stop tipping them entirely, forcing the company to go under from mass quitting, or improve wages. But that wont happen because to many it feels wrong to not tip.
You have to pay with the card from the cashapp app and link "instacart 30 percent off" as your "cashapp boost". Make sure you click to "sign up for instacart express" when you checkout at costco.com. It will ask you to enter a credit card and give you a free 2 month trial (even if you already have instacart, which I do). Its separate and links only to your costco acct i couldnt find out how to add my existing instacart acct. anyway use your cashapp card when you sign up on costco.com for the instacart trial (it will be free and lower price of the cart). Then use the cashapp card again as the payment method for the order. (Need to load $ into your cashapp balance to cover the cost). Once it pays it will automatically give you the extra 30% discount on the cashapp side. In the app it will do it automatically, and when the order completed it charged even less. I paid about $56 out the door.
Shingled. I used to own a few.

Good deal for the price. I've had one of these for years, no issues.

Out of curiosity, anyone ever shuck these?
I posted about this elsewhere, and was told these are SMR drives, not a good candidate for shucking.

Same.

I have streamed directly off this drive and it's performed fine.
I've had one as my 7tb of plex/emby storage for about 3 years and it's been great too.

If you are looking to shuck, get a refurbished server drive off of Amazon for $69 for a 6tb (the current sweet spot for lowest price per tb). You'll get an enterprise grade drive with 5 years of warranty for abiut the same price per tb.

MDD - HGST Ultrastar 6TB 7200RPM 128MB Cache SATA 6Gb/s 3.5-inch Enterprise Hard Drive - HUS726060ALE611 (for RAID, NAS, Desktop PC, Surveillance Storage) - 5 Year Warranty (Renewed) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09K3LZ...UTF8&psc=1

Yes, it's a used drive. But it's a used much better quality drive which also is backed by an Amazon warranty for 5 years (these Seagate have a 1yr last I checked).

I've had a couple of these Seagate hubs die in me in a storage pool. Admittedly, it was after 6 years, but my point is that why pay for a lower initial quality product with less warranty if you are just going to shuck?

Now, if you need a case, that's different. But I have cases galore from shucks in the past. And perhaps you do too.
Who will honor the warranty on these? Amazon or manufacturer?

EDIT: I feel like these were in AWS servers for 3 years.

When I click on that Instacart button, a new tab opens asking to add membership number. I do not have a Costco membership, so I click to shop as non-member. Then it goes to the Costco front page.
You can't get the deal without Costco membership.

My Instacart/cash app updated the total to $59.67. That included a $5 tip, and tax of course. Plus I gave the driver another $5. So $64.67 divided by 8 TB = $8.08 per TB.

Can you elaborate? I downloaded cashapp, joined (address, name, SSN), and "linked" my debit card. I also signed up for the cashapp "Cash Card" which is preparing. Added the instacart 30% boost. In order to use this "Cash Card' at the costco sameday checkout, I need to add cash to my account, but it says the transfer has failed.

I had the same problem. Contacted them several times. They provided no help. Finally found a Cash App loading location nearby, loaded cash and then just placed the order.

Even linking the Bank Account details with the Cash App did not help.
For me, after I joined cash app, and added my debit card and linked my bank account, it took a couple hours before it allowed me to add funds to the new cash app card.

I am just testing the drive that I received yesterday. The write speeds are horrendously slow--only 28 MB/s!! While the read speed is about 180 MB/s.
(Tested using CrystalDiskMark @ 1 GB)

Is anyone having better luck with the write speeds?

Same here, 26-28 MB/s transferring 3.5 TB of data. Took over 35 hours to transfer all of it doing it half at a time.

That's about right/write. Many people including myself warned others about the slowness of this SMR drive.

I copied over 1.3TB and it took about 2.5 hours (maybe ~140MB/s). This is in one stretch copying from another portable Western Digital drive through my 2013 Macbook.

EDIT: I also just now copied over 250GB from the same WD ext drive, but from an exFAT partition to the Seagate--which I formatted as HFS+ in Mac. It took about 70 min, so this was slower--about 60MB/s.
