Guessing you have a cheap TV and a soundbar so audio and video quality doesn't matter to you. Or maybe you have bad hearing and poor eyesight. Either way, some appreciate the better visual and sound over highly compressed streaming.

If I return a DVD and don't get an email confirmation I contact them on chat that day. I've had machines that take a disc but don't phone home.

Also not saying you weren't wronged with the charges, and this may have nothing to do with what happened to you, but the return period isn't 24 hours... last I read it is by 9pm the next day. So if you got a rental at 11pm today, you have until 9pm tomorrow to return it (22 hours). On the other side of that, if you got a rental at 1am, you have until 9pm the next day to return it (44 hours).
