But a canister filter is far superior to most HOB filters.

Good deal but you'll get more bang for your buck with a HOB

Should I even ask what a HOB is if it's just for a 36 gallon tank? Haha

Hang on back. Like an aquaclear filter. That style of filter would be perfect for most 36g setups

True, but most people are more likely to clean a hob filter regularly than a canister filter.

Thanks for the alert!! Bought myself a Fluval 407 and it's going to sit around til my mbunas outgrow the current tank they're in. But definitely going to need a canister for that as I'm sick of the AIO design that literally takes up all the volume in the tank.

Use a python or aqueon's equivalent. Just make sure the outflow is lower in height (more the better) than the hot tub or tank. When I do my tank cleanings I throw the other end off my deck and add some aquarium water to the cleaning end until it creates suction

The 107 is inferior to most HOB. The 107 pumps 95 gallons/hr versus an aquaclear 50 ($30) filters 200 gallons/hr. HOB are also less of a hassle to maintain. Only true advantage of the 107 would be more room for media and maybe better circulation if the tank is long

Thanks for the comment, I ended up getting the fluval 407.

I missed this price point sale before during Black Friday at petsmart for the same price.
