No discount on Google Play, interestingly.

Yes, although there aren't many movie characters, so it depends what you're looking for. The Emperor shows up a bit, and the sequel includes more Vader and Anakin.

Prior to Disney's timeline reboot, Thrawn was one of the earliest (and best) book villains who tangled with Luke et al. after Return of the Jedi. A real professional dude. This is an origin story by the same author that re-adds him to the new timeline. (The old books are still worth a read too, if you want to see more of the original trilogy cast. Not sure if there are new books filling in that timeframe.)
Listened to all 3 on Audible to and from work. Insane but it made me want to have a longer commute.
I believe I bought the second one when it went on sale too. But why complain about this tactic in the first place? I prefer this. It is like getting the sampler at a restaurant and then deciding if I should buy an entree.

bah, i hate this tactic to put the first of a series on sale to lure me into buying the ensuing books, which you almost never see discounted (big surprise)!

Yes this is a stand alone trilogy that introduces one of the favorite legend characters into canon. According to Zahn he wrote both versions as one character. So if you like this I would recommend the legend version too.
If you buy the kindle version you can buy the audible version for a reduced price now or anytime in the future.

Personally I'm very disappointed with the new books. I found the new Thrawn books to be mediocre at best. The same goes for the aftermath trilogy.

Some good/above average ones:
A New Dawn
Tarkin
Heir to the Jedi (very good)
Lords of the Sith
Dark Disciple
Lost Stars
Bloodline (very good)

Does this follow the Zahn methodology of writing your characters that are so much more awesome than the ones Lucas wrote, only to have to have Luke save the day at the end anyway? Can't believe people like this trash. Also Mara jade sucks.

except i've never been to a restaurant and ordered a sampler just so i can decide whether to get an entree. i just get the entree i want, because who has time and valuable stomach space to waste like that? what kinda restaurant does that anyway. applebee's?

I would start with the original Timothy Zahn Trilogy released back in the 90's, starting with Heir to the Empire. This original trilogy is what the sequels should have been.

No it shouldn't have. Zahn is trash and who wants to read the same copy/paste about throwing lightsabers every other page? Also Mara Jade blow and there's too much space devoted to crap about her in his novels, only to have Luke show up at the end to Deus Ex it anyway.

And let's not talk about all that clones bullshit.

Tarkin was a good read. Nice to know the backstory and his point of view on the empire. Plus it lets you know what he knows and doesn't.
