The problem with e coolers is that there are so many brands and all seem to have good reviews and around the same price range. Just hard to know which to go with. They are commodities at this point.
I just have to remember that like any product, the majority of people submitting a review are doing so because of a bad experience. All of the people who like the product never submit a review. So the numbers are skewed.
One pain on this one is that per the warranty, after two months, return shipping for warranty purposes is at your expense.
The more I look at the return and warranty processes on these, the more tempted I am to just grab the 40 liter from Costco. I don't like the design as much, but I can just drag it back to a store.

You can power it off something like a 12v battery or mid-sized power bank. A simple 100w solar panel /w battery can keep this thing running endlessly.
Super useful for getting and keeping things cold and has shut off functions for vehicles etc.
If stuff is already cold, even a small Ryobi inverter (18v one) powers this for hours and hours.
Very small power draw on most of these when measured with a kill-a-watt.
After obsessively researching fridges late last year, I went with a 45 qt Iceco and have been very happy with it.
I actually ended up buying a used 50 qt ARB fridge off a coworker around the same time and between the two I actually prefer the Iceco due to the opening orientation of the lid as well as the slightly smaller dimensions.
Looking at this fridge, the handles and closing latch look like deal breakers. Lifting a loaded fridge would be pretty unpleasant with those thin handles. And the closing latch looks dinky and exposed to snagging on things.
"I did find in the manual that if the ambient temp is over 90* it will not work properly and that is TRUE so True No where do they say that until you buy the unit ."

How much heat do these give off? Does it need a lot of space around it for airflow? Could I run it in a minivan on a road trip to a zoo/other location, leave it plugged into an inverter (EGO) while vehicle is off and come back to chilled drinks and unspoiled food for lunch and dinner? Thanks in advance.
The compressor is the heart of these mini fridges and all I can say is that if the manufacturer isn't proud and won't disclose what brand of compressor they are using, then they are using some Chinese cheap compressor. Cheap compressors that are Loud, inefficient, vibrates and will break in few months.
Look for the compressor brand. I always go for the Secop - a German brand compressor (formerly know as Danfoss). This compressor brand is THE BEST!
ARB, Dometic are some of the expensive durable big brands that use Secop compressor but you can also go with ICECO, a cheaper alternative but still uses the Secop compressor.
Whynter doesn't seem to disclose what kind of compressor they use. All good brands that use Secop will proudly tell you they are using Secop and will not hide the fact.

I have a smaller ryobi 18v inverter I've used for a few hours in the car with a 6ah battery, as long as the stuff is cold before you go out this should be no problem.
For those purchasing this, note that it seems to work well for car trips and truckers and the like where the cab temperatures aren't that high, but reviewers say if ambient is over 90oF the compressor has trouble keeping pace. In addition, its recommended to use this with the bag, as it needs the extra insulation help.
Lastly, if the box is damaged, just go ahead and process a return its not worth risking it. If the box is not damaged, take out and inspect the unit and then just leave it sitting in the correct orientation for a week before turning it on and testing it out. And know that when you transport this, you need to keep it level at all times, and you shouldn't run it at more than a 30o angle from level.
