Do I need a special nvr for this? How would an nvr detect the 2 cameras separately?
No, it's just 2 separate cameras housed under one shell and sharing the same cable. Any nvr that works with reolinks will see this as 2 cameras. When the record you get 2 files. Personally I have one and I will likely replace it with 2 cameras. 4MP doesn't quite cut it.

I'm using Synology Surveillance. This sounds like Synology would require 2 licenses to operate this camera then. Unfortunate.
Comparing color night vision and b&w IR which is better? I wouldn't leave the spotlights on all night. And does this have the sensor spotlight feature like some of reolink's newer cameras
Reolink gives you a hard time when you need warranty support. They will ask you to try 50 things before sending you a replacement and expects you to pay for return shipping, even for product dead on arrival

On the positive, however, Amex has stepped in for me every time I've had to warranty a Reolink camera. Lesson: buy using your Amex card that has extended warranty purchase protection built in.
