Will this choke with a few productivity apps and YouTube tabs open?
Or should I go for the 8gb just to be safe?

Its 2017 14nm tech that they decided to name as part of the 3000 series when it really isn't even close.
Why AMD wants to recycle this old crap with new sounding names is a mystery. I already ran across that with the 3400 cpus that are really just zen/zen+ parts.
They're also calling these "athlons" in some instances, because who wouldn't want a crappy old cpu with an old cpu name?
Dual core, slow, hot, and get something else.
If it was an entirely new architecture then I might see a loss of future support.
And if they want chrome os to supplant windows, they'll need to support the hardware longer than they currently do. Because win 10 will run on a 20 year old computer just fine.\
As a point of fact, when Google neutered the onhubs because they weren't going to update them anymore and they had graciously decided that they therefore shouldn't be used any more, I decided to not buy hardware from them anymore.
So ye, that should absolutely be our expectation, and google has seen that and is now offering the Flex option.

There are so many choices around for a laptop style Chromebook, I personally would pay more money and get a product that will last years longer and provide me with the performance that I crave.
Tablets are different, I feel you don't have the choices that are available for laptops.
My preference for a Chromebook Laptop / Convertible
1. 8GB of RAM (I would not comprimise on this)
2. i5 or better..... this will future proof your device and should be able to use the same device for the entire life
3. 128GB of hard drive space OR MORE
Chromebooks that I would consider are
1. I really love tablets so here is some ideas.... Lenovo Duet 5 (open box only) for $280ish. While the CPU is SO MUCH WEAKER, this product offers alot or HP X2 11 ($249 from Bestbuy on Ebay - another Chromebook Tablet) or even the Lenovo 10e refurbished ($80 at Micro Center)
2. $378.40 Acer Chromebook Spin (Refurb): i5-1135G7, 13.5" 2256x1504, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD WITHOU A DOUBT, THIS WOULD BE THE ONE THAT I BUY!!!!
3. $400 HP Touchscreen Chromebook: Intel Core i5-1135G7, 14" 1080p IPS, 8GB DDR4, 256GB SSD, Chrome OS $399.97 @ Costco
Good Luck.
The Acer Spin screen is what swayed me to Acer plus the rest of the specs. Spend the extra money if you can and if you can't... If you can't, then I would suggest not buying anything. I personally look for AMAZING value, not the cheapest thing possible.
No idea what the youtube/multitasking thing is trying to say. I frequently have a bazoodle of chrome tabs, 4k video and other stuff going on with 4GB of ram, and I have never had to pick a lower resolution like 480 on ANYTHING, including my 7 year old sony android tv that has a whopping 2GB. It does 4k streams while it's doing all sorts of things.
A dev might need more. Most anyone who really can't live in 4 are well aware of it, because the apps they use require a lot more room.
I see these same sorts of comments with regards to mac's and if 8gb is enough.
If you're asking, it sure is. Because if you're asking, your apps run just fine in less memory.
