Capitol 1 has weird approval system.
If you have good to excellent credit score, don't waste your HP on them.
They are also the only major creditor pulls from all 3 credit bureaus.
I'd advise stay away from them.
Agree. Have near perfect FICO score and yet was rejected. WTF.

Youre thinking of venture X with the same intro bonus

It was 100K bonus with $10K spending requirement.

I've been using the Venture X for about a year. I got 100k bonus with it, but I figured I'd share my thoughts on those points. It's love/hate. The points transfer to a VERY slim number of partners. Most all of us will be stuck using the Capital One Travel portal to use them. Now, that's a good and bad thing. The good means you can use those points with any airline and any hotel. The bad is that I've had small issues with certain flights showing up on the carrier's website but not Capitol One's, and/or, the price is 2% higher on Capitol One's website, and/or, only the "basic" economy seat is available which costs extra for seat selection instead of the "regular" economy. etc etc Now then, I have found that if I just book the basic economy fare, my status with that airline then allows me to go into the carrier's app and select my seat/check a bag with no fees. So, overall, I'm doing pretty well with Capitol One Travel despite some hoop-jumping. But I could see how some people might have a different experience.

The regular Venture does not come with Priority Pass.... which honestly my experience with Priority Pass has been mixed too. Some lounges are overfilled and not allowing Priority Pass members. Or maybe they are, but you've got to wait awhile whereas other members walk right in. I waited over an hour in Vegas for entrance. First world problems for sure. But just telling you the real experience. It's not like having Admiral's Club or Centurion access, for example.

But as others have mentioned, the Venture X comes with a $300 travel credit and I also got a $200 AirBnB credit [thepointsguy.com] (don't see that called out anymore). Free global entry credit too, if you don't already have it.
Can't you book directly with the airline or the hotel, and use the "Cover Your Travel Purchases" feature? Or is the redemption ratio not 1:1 with that feature?

From the Capital One website:
Cover Your Travel Purchases
Redeem your Venture miles on anything from hotel stays to unforgettable travel experiences with friends and family. You can redeem miles to cover the cost of any travel purchase made with your Venture card within 90 days of the purchase. With enough miles, you could essentially "erase" travel purchases from your most recent trip!

Purchases made from airlines, hotels, rail lines, car rental agencies, limousine services, bus lines, cruise lines, taxi cabs, travel agents and time shares are generally considered to be travel purchases, and availability for redemption is based on the merchant category code assigned to them by the merchant. Capital One is not responsible for how merchants assign these codes.

Define "Perfect" 850? I have a 835 credit score, applied and was instantly approved for $15,000. I don't think that I have have a capital one credit card in the past, so maybe that was the deciding factor.

A couple of months ago I was denied too. Scores from all agencies in 820 - 830. Their reconsideration department don't budge. Never had any capital one card. I had a bank account with them, to show my protest I closed that account too and mentioned in their survey why I closed my account.

Stay away if you don't want a dent on your credit scores and stays there for 2 yrs.

What was the reason given for denying the application?

Too many active credit cards. I had about 6 - 7 in total, from Discover, Amex, and Chase.

Hmm, I have 8 at the moment. Seems like a stupid reason if you have the income and credit history to support it.

Apologies I should have said excellent not perfect, I do have another capital one card not sure if that is the reason for denial.
