I played daggerfall when it first came out. Shows how old I am. The character creation was revolutionary. The game world is still the largest ever created. The auto generated dungeons were so large you would get lost in them and not be able to find your way out even with the auto map because the dungeons were so big. The only way I escaped many times was to clip through the walls using a bug and levitate back to the entrance. In character creation you could inflict yourself with crippling handicaps in exchange for attribute points. My favorite was sunlight allergy, this didn't affect game play to badly as most of the game was played indoors in buildings and dungeons. Using the extra points you could max health Regen so you would only die slowly while walking outside in the daylight. Indoors you would be almost immortal. The way I clipped through walls was to crouch and then levitate as high as possible and then stand up. Your body would clip through the ceiling. Repeat the process to get back in the dungeon by clipping through the floor.

As much as I love Morrowind, I wasn't able to force myself to play these predecessors.

I bought this (Arena) about 20 years ago, when it was already an old game. There is a bunch of stuff to like, like the many classes and the differentiation between them. It wasn't for me, though. It was too open ended for me. But if anyone is into that, the scale is larger than the other, newer games. The more focused geography of the newer games is probably helpful, though.

Endless, procedurally generated look the same towns and landscapes weren't for me. Nor was being solo. I expected a party of 4 given the cover art.

The price is certainly right.

Nice deal! Just wondering how much did you pay for these and what kind of savings we are getting?

I remember daggerfall, felt huge but also flat as soon as you went exploring, like every town and guild and quest and dungeon was the same, with no real personality anywhere... Not that different from Skyrim now that I think about it....

BTW, one thing about free games at GOG, you can give them away as gifts.

I bought these on GOG at Black Friday prices a few years ago for a decent price thinking one day I'd play them — now they are free and I still haven't played them .

I played both when they came out. I think it was the Daggerfall box that listed how many towns and dungeons they had (well into the 100s if not 1000s) and I thought I'd never have to buy a new game again! Problem is, dungeons and towns are all randomly generated. And the generation algols. . . wow. They needed a lot of work. Nasty, twisty, 3D dungeons with stairs to nowhere and all sorts of stuff. Fully exploring any dungeon was extremely difficult. Started using cheat codes to warp through dungeons to get what I needed.

It's quite a step back from Morrowind/Oblivion/Skyrim in terms of graphics.

OTOH the factions were very cool. I liked everything back then, except those random dungeons.

Arena isn't super great. Daggerfall is a bit fun if you install daggerfall unity and enable smaller dungeons. Become a werewolf and go nuts destroying everything. I ended up playing through the whole main story but be warned even with small dungeons it does get old going through dungeons for literally every quest to grab a thing with secret doors everywhere, I ended up using console commands the last few missions because I wanted to see the ending, which was a bit anticlimactic.

I loved Daggerfall when I played it (and never finished) many years ago, but there is little chance I will enjoy playing it now. Will get them to try if I have a chance, but I have a huge backlog of games that are more appealing to me now (and still need to finish Skyrim first Smilie ).

Those game titles were already included in my library. I must've redeemed this game during some GOG giveaway a while ago.

Redeemed my GOG copies without issue, thanks for the notice. A heads-up to people with Steam accounts: these games are also available for free on Steam. May be especially desirable for Steam Deck owners if they want secondary copies for easier access on their new Valve handhelds. Here are the links to each:
https://store.steampowered.com/ap...lls_Arena/
https://store.steampowered.com/ap...aggerfall/

Somewhat off-topic, but if any of you have games on the (now officially depreciated) Bethesda launcher, you can still import copies of your games to Steam through their site. I did that with my copy of Morrowind recently. Figure a few TES fans here may be in the same situation.
